Little Kit, big steps! 🐾🧡

Today was Kit’s first Mutts Momentum to Mooches session, and what a cracking little start he made!

We started off without his big brother Otis, giving Kit the chance to find his own paws and get comfortable with Uncle Martyn. A little nervous at first, but with plenty of reassurance, cuddles and rewards for being such a good boy, his confidence soon started growing.

Then it was time to bring in the big guns… his big brother Otis! 🌭

And who better to show Kit the ropes than a seasoned Mutts Mooches veteran? Otis gave his little brother some familiar company and all the support he needed as we explored how things work out on the Mooches together.

No rushing, no pressure. Just positive experiences, building confidence and taking things at Kit’s pace.

What a little superstar. Proud of you, Kit! 🐾🫶🏽

Some days are just made for having free-running fun with your best fur-iends and saying woof you to the 💩 weather! Well, at least until Freddie signals to Bernie, Betsy and his Dad aka Uncle Martyn that’s enough by sheltering in the only dry spot available that is… 🐾🌧️😅🫶🏽

P.S. Yes, I really do expect a lot from that air freshener to work overtime against the wet dog smell in big Bertha the Berlingo at times 🤣

MUTTS MOMENTUM 🎓 → MUTTS MOOCHES 🐾

Everybody welcome Benson! 👋🏽😍

It turns out this big lad didn’t need much convincing that becoming a Moocher was a good idea 😂

After just one Assessment Walk with Uncle Martyn, today was Benson’s Integration Mooch - giving him experience of all the different parts of a normal Mooch before adding the extra pressure of joining an established group.

Collection from home ✅
Collar & lead handling ✅
Walking to the van ✅
Jumping straight in ✅
Travelling like an absolute pro ✅
Calm van manners ✅
And then meeting his first member of the Pack… ✅

Enter Bernie 🐶❤️

We started the boys at a distance, walked parallel and gradually brought them together as they showed us they were comfortable.

A couple of polite bum sniffs later and they were happily Mooching alongside each other 😂 Within minutes Uncle Martyn had both leads and Benson had seemingly decided he’d known Bernie forever.

And that was that.

Assessment Walk ✅
Integration Mooch ✅
Mutts Momentum Graduate 🎓
Next stop… Mutts Mooches 🐾

There’s no need to manufacture extra stages when Benson has shown us he’s ready. Now it’s simply about Uncle Martyn looking across our established Mooches and working out which groups, dogs and personalities are the best match for him, before gradually introducing him to his new Pack mates.

Absolutely smashed it, Benson. Welcome to the Mooches, big lad 🐾💜

Keep an eye out for Nova looking at Uncle Martyn and asking, “how did I get here?” like it was somehow my fault Nola wanted to go and view some chickens and the quickest route is a straight line, right? 😂

Plus, bonus content from little Olive’s puppy visit today - confidence & cheekiness already coming through more and more 😍

“CAN I PET THAT DAAAAWG?!” 🐶😂

Quite possibly the sentence Mrs Mutts heard most during our honeymoon in Bali.

Along with…

“Babe, look at that dog”

“T… THERE’S ANOTHER ONE”

“Babe, get a picture of him”

To the point where Mrs Mutts’ camera roll became less Mr & Mrs Hillier Honeymoon and more Uncle Martyn’s Dogs of Bali Collection 😂

For the record though… Uncle Martyn did NOT, in fact, pet that dawg.

We knew rabies remains present in Bali and visitors are advised not to touch unfamiliar or free-roaming dogs, so however much every fibre of our dog-loving existence wanted to say hello, they were admired from a respectful distance. A few chose to come and investigate us instead… which seriously tested the impulse control 😂

What we found really interesting is that a dog wandering freely around Bali isn’t necessarily a homeless stray. Many live within families and communities while being allowed to roam, and Bali’s indigenous dogs have a fascinating history stretching back thousands of years. The island is also home to the internationally recognised Kintamani-Bali Dog.

So apparently the honeymoon became an unexpected training exercise for Uncle Martyn:

See dog.
Get ridiculously excited about dog.
Alert Mrs Mutts to dog.
Photograph dog.
DO NOT PET DOG.

Repeat 😂🐾

You can take Uncle Martyn thousands of miles away from Martyn’s Mutts…

…but you absolutely cannot stop him going “BABE. LOOK. DOG!” 🐶🇮🇩💜
