With temperatures expected to rise this week, I’d like to remind all dog owners to take extra care when exercising and caring for their pets in the heat ☀️🐶
Hot weather can quickly become dangerous for dogs and may increase the risk of heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
A few important reminders:
• Walk dogs during the cooler parts of the day – early morning or later evening
• Avoid hot pavements and artificial surfaces, as these can burn paw pads (if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for paws!!)
• Always provide access to fresh water and shade
• Never leave dogs in parked vehicles, even for a short time
• Consider shorter walks, enrichment at home, or gentle exercise instead of long walks in high temperatures
• Be extra cautious with puppies, senior dogs, flat-faced breeds, overweight dogs, and those with underlying health conditions
Signs of heat-related illness can include excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, collapse, or difficulty breathing. If you are concerned, seek veterinary advice immediately.
Please keep your pets safe and enjoy the warmer weather responsibly ☀️🐶
