✨ 🐶 Just a little pupdate.. 🐶 ✨

It’s been lovely pampering some dogs again recently, and my own little fur baby is looking lovely and shiny after a thorough deshed.. after all ‘tis the season! 👀

After some time away, I’ll be opening up a very small number of appointments again on a limited basis while I figure out what the future looks like for Prim & Pupper. 🐶✂️

✨ Teddy – Shih Tzu ✨

I am SO proud of this little chap!

Teddy has been coming to me for a while now and he was never a fan of having tools or handling around his face and neck. So, working closely with mum, we put a plan in place focusing on gentle desensitisation and respecting his boundaries which allowed him to become comfortable at his own pace.

He recently came in for a full groom and just LOOK at how beautiful he’s turned out 🤍

This groom isn’t perfect… and that’s okay! What matters is that Teddy allowed me to work around his face and achieve a lovely rounded shape for the first time so he can continue being his adorable self.

This is progress… and progress beats perfection ALWAYS ✨

Prim & Pupper has never been about the “perfect groom”. It’s about your dog’s comfort, confidence and trust because when they feel safe, that’s when those polished grooms naturally follow over time.

Well done Teddy, I’m so proud of you! 👏🏻💜

This is what grooming with compassion really looks like 💜

The adorable Angus visited recently and he really wasn’t a fan of the powerful driers.

Here at Prim & Pupper, I don’t push past comfort zones, he simply told me the dryer was a bit too much, so I listened and adjusted. 🐶💜

For some dogs, confidence comes in layers:
🐾 building trust
🐾 learning the environment
🐾 realising nothing scary happens here

A towel dry might seem small, but for a nervous dog it’s a huge step forward in regards to building trust, feeling comfortable, and having a positive experience.

Grooming shouldn’t be about ticking boxes or finishing quickly so you can get to the next dog! It should be about meeting dogs where they are and helping them feel safe and secure, however that may be!

That’s the Prim & Pupper way and exactly how real progress happens ✨

I hate to be the one to say it but “only groom your dog when they need it” is incorrect advice! 🙈

Grooming shouldn’t start when a coat looks overgrown or messy because by then, it’s often already harder for your dog to cope.

That’s why regular grooming or maintenance grooms are so beneficial. If your dog isn’t quite ready for a full groom, a maintenance groom can be a great alternative, they’re a little less involved (and a little more budget friendly!) 👀🙌🏻

Regular maintenance of your dog helps:
🐾 Keep coats healthy and knot free before painful mats and detangling start
🐾 Supports skin and coat health long term
🐾 Keeps dogs familiar and comfortable with the grooming process
🐾 Prevents grooming from ever feeling rushed or overwhelming

When grooming is maintained, it stays familiar for your dog which means gentle, predictable, and stress free! Perfect for nervous, anxious, or sensitive dogs. 🐶💜

Even breeds that seem low maintenance benefit hugely from regular care.. (hello double coats 👋).
