I hope everyone is managing to stay cool!

With the heat if you need to cancel, feel free to get in touch. The air con does a great job of keeping in here cool, but if your dog is going to struggle with the travel just let us know and we can rearrange.

With the heat in mind, the metal ramp is quite warm to touch so feel free to park either on the ramp right in front of the door or around the side next to reception so your dogs don’t have to walk across the ramp to get to us.

Canine dementia

Bailey is a lovely boy we have been seeing here for a while. He is recently suspected to have canine dementia. After a conversation with his owner and his vet we have started to laser his brain.

LASER HIS BRAIN!? That’s right, with canine dementia it can be caused by a lack of oxygen/ blood flow to the brain. Using the laser to help improve circulation can help to reduce some of the symptoms of canine dementia, like being unsettled in the evenings/ over night, nesting, appearing lost or confused.

As you can see Bailey loved every second of the treatment and will now be starting on a course of laser therapy to help reduce some of his symptoms and improve his quality of life.

Get in touch if you’d like to hear more about how laser therapy could help your furry friend 💕🐕

It’s Maddie’s dog, Ripley 2nd birthday! 🎈🎁

Even on her birthday she doesn’t get a day off from physio (you can see the poles in the poles in the background) 😂

Join us in wishing Rips a happy birthday

Have you ever seen your dogs muscles twitch when you touch it? That can be a fasciculation.

They occur for a number of reasons such as tension, nerve irritation, weakness or neurological or orthopaedic conditions.

🐕how can massage help?
Reduce muscle spasms
Improve blood flow and circulation to the area
Promote relaxation of over worked muscles
Improve comfort and mobility

With fasciculations, you often have “stuck” fascia which is the layer between muscles and skin. When this tissue is stuck it not only affects the areas where it’s adhered, but also further along the myofasical chain causing knock on compensatory effects.

As qualified therapists every muscle twitch we see and feel tells a story and what we need to do to help them feel their best.

Get in touch if you’d like to book your dog in for an assessment

☀️heat wave☀️

It looks like we’re set for another hot week

I’ve set up air conditioning the in the treadmill room so it’ll hopefully be nice and cool in there all week 🤞🏻

If you would like to rearrange due to the heat please get in touch! Also if the new air conditioning struggles to keep up with the heat I may be in touch to re arrange some evening appointments.

Stay cool everyone 🧊

Gorgeous Daisy 🌼

What a sweet girl! Daisy comes for regular physiotherapy and hydrotherapy to help manage her IMPA (immune mediated polyarthritis).

Daisy was diagnosed with this condition a few months ago. She was initially on a high dose of steroids to help manage the condition, and she has been slowly weaning down the dose. We have been working closely alongside her veterinary team to report back any changes we had noticed after a change in her medication. It’s all part of the importance of working as a multi-disciplinary team!

When Daisy first started attending she was a bit shy, but she has now really warmed up to us and loves her sessions with Maddie! It’s so nice seeing her sweet and cheeky personality 🌼❤️

Bailey 🎓

The sweet Bailey graduated from physiotherapy and hydrotherapy recently.

Bailey was referred for turned out elbows and behavioural concerns.

When Bailey started he was a bit sore in his elbows, tight muscles all over and taking short strides with his back legs. He also was prone to resource guarding behaviours and generally a bit anxious.

After a course of physio and 6 weeks of weekly hydros he was like a new dog! His muscles are now nice and supple, his tone in his triceps had improved (they were chronically weak from his turned out elbow conformation), and was able to stride out much more comfortably.

The owners were super dedicated and also worked closely with a behaviouralist throughout his time attending physio and hydro and he is now much less anxious and his resource guarding had reduced.

Physio isn’t just for your dogs body, an animal in chronic discomfort can cause lots of behavioural changes which can they can show in a variety of ways. If your dog ever has sudden behavioural changes it is always worth taking them to the vet.

Here at Maple Tails we love helping the dogs as a whole feel better, not just physically but also mentally.

If you have a reactive dog or anxious and are interested to see how physio can help, please get in touch 🙂

Way to go Bailey! We’re all so pleased with your progress 🎉

🌞🐾 Keeping Your Dog Cool During the Heatwave 🐾🌞

With temperatures soaring, it's important to help our dogs stay safe and comfortable in the heat. Unlike us, dogs can struggle to regulate their body temperature and can quickly become unwell if they overheat.

Here are our top tips for keeping your furry friends cool:
💧 Always provide plenty of fresh, cool water.
🚶 Walk early in the morning or provide your dog enrichment at home like scattering treats or frozen lickimats.
🔥 Check pavements before heading out – if it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws.
🌳 Seek shade and avoid strenuous exercise during the hottest part of the day.
🧊 Use cooling mats, fans, or frozen treats to help them cool down.
🚗 Never leave your dog in a parked car, even for a few minutes.

Watch out for signs of heatstroke, including excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, or collapse. If you're concerned, contact your vet immediately.

🏊 Hydrotherapy can be a fantastic way for dogs to exercise safely while staying cool during warmer weather. If you'd like to find out more about how hydrotherapy or physiotherapy can help keep your dog happy, healthy, and active, feel free to get in touch.

Stay safe, stay cool, and give your dogs an extra cuddle from us! ❤️🐶

Hello everyone!

I’ve unfortunately fractured my pelvis so I’ll be needing to rest for a bit 😬

Thankfully Maddie is filling in and doing extra when she can but we may need to move some appointments around and admin may take slightly longer than usual!

I’ll be in touch if your appointment needs moving, but if you don’t hear anything just assume your appointment is carrying on as normal ❤️🍁
