Its Ugliest Dog Day! 🐶

We think all dogs are beautiful but we all have our off days! Send us a photo of your dog or post in the comments and we'll share some of our favourites.

Social media often shows the finished result of a dog nailing their training, but real dog training is messy, imperfect, and full of character.

Today, we're celebrating things that make our dogs unique.

Kiwi can sometimes get worried at the vets. She’s had some uncomfortable visits due to her bad knees, so understandably she isn’t too keen!
We help her to feel more comfortable by brining a snuffle mat. Sniffing is calming for dogs, so allowing her to sniff for treats helps her to calm down and enjoy herself a bit more.

We just wanted to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone who has supported us in our first year!

Thank you to all the amazing owners who have come along to classes, one-to-ones or booster club. Without you, we wouldn't still be here a year later.

Thank you to all the wonderful businesses who have shown us support! Vets for Pets Kingswood

We also wanted to say a massive thank you to our friends and family for their support as well. And a special thank you to our wonderful volunteer Becci who is the best!

🎉 The Dog Coaches turns 1 today 🎉

What a year it’s been.

Over the last 12 months we have had the joy of working with so many incredible dogs and owners, creating the best relationships and helping people to enjoy their new four legged family memeber!

From group classes and one-to-ones to booster club and more it’s been an incredible first year.

Here’s a look back at some of the dogs, owners and moments that made it so special.

Here’s to year two ❤️

What an incredible day at our Dog First Aid Course!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for this fantastic training day. We were thrilled to see such a great turnout of dedicated dog owners and professionals, all committed to learning potentially life-saving skills for the dogs in their care.

From CPR and choking emergencies to heatstroke, bleeding, seizures, and more, attendees spent the day building confidence and practical knowledge in a supportive, hands-on environment. The enthusiasm, engagement, and willingness to learn throughout the day made it a real pleasure to host.

It's reassuring to know that so many people are now better prepared to help a dog in an emergency situation. Thank you for making the course such a success and for investing your time in becoming safer, more confident dog carers.

We loved meeting you all and can't wait to welcome more of you to future courses! Head to our website to book your place on the next course!

With summer just around the corner, we’re all starting to get our gardens ready for BBQs and spending more time outside ☀️

But don’t forget about your dog too as they probably spend more time in the garden than anyone else!

Our gardens should be somewhere our dogs feel safe, relaxed, and able to just be dogs. Somewhere they can chill in the sun, sniff about, toilet in peace, and enjoy being outside with us.

There are loads of simple things you can do to make your garden more dog friendly:
🌿 Add lavender or other dog-safe plants for sniffy spots
🕳️ Create a digging area or even a sandpit
💧 Get a paddling pool for the warmer days
🌳 Make sure there are shady areas for them to cool off
🎾 Use the garden for enrichment, training, and sniffing games
🚧 And of course, make sure it’s secure

It’s also worth checking your plants, as some common ones like daffodils and tulips can be toxic to dogs.

Your garden doesn’t need to look perfect, your dog definitely won’t care about that. They just want somewhere safe and enjoyable to spend time with you 🐾

If you need help with enrichment ideas or making life with your dog easier this summer, The Dog Coaches are always happy to help 💛

We love seeing progress like this 🙌

Lenny is an 8-year-old lurcher rescue who joined us for one-to-one training before moving into our 6 month + adolescent group classes. When he first started, being around other dogs on lead, especially at a distance or up close could be a real challenge.

Recently, his owner Gabby shared this update:

“Lenny ended up within sniffing distance of another dog… I expected a tantrum, but he listened beautifully and moved past without lunging, barking or whining.”

Even more impressively, Lenny was later able to walk past the same dog at a distance, something that would previously have caused a lot of frustration and reactivity.

Massive credit to Gabby for the work she’s put in and to Lenny for being such a star ⭐
