All About Dogs My name is Nikki and I’m a qualified animal training instructor, specialising in all things puppy and adolescence
related. Hi!

I am also a Kids Around Dogs’ qualified professional, and can help children or adults with a fear of dogs. My name is Nikki and I’m a qualified animal training instructor trainer, canine conditioning coach and KAD (Kids Around Dogs) approved professional. I help dog guardians understand, communicate, train, and thrive with their dogs as well as working with children who have a fear of dogs. Your pet’s welfare and well-being are always my top priority, and that’s why I use a reward-based , science led training approach that’s designed to build and grow your dog’s confidence and skills. My training strategy focuses on reinforcing your dog for the behaviours you like, and on managing your environment in a way that helps your dog make the right choices. This is the most effective way to set you and your dog up to succeed.

🐾💛 Helping Children Feel Safe and Confident Around Dogs 💛🐾

Every child deserves to feel safe around dogs, and every dog deserves to feel safe around children. 🐶👧

For some children, being around dogs is exciting and wonderful. For others, even seeing a dog across the park can feel frightening and overwhelming.

And that’s okay. 💕

At Kids Around Dogs® (KAD), we believe that confidence grows through kindness, understanding, patience and positive experiences — never through pressure or forced interactions.

🌟 As a KAD Approved Professional, I can help with:

🐾 Overcoming fear of dogs – Supporting children to gradually build confidence at their own pace.

🐾 Understanding dog body language – Helping children recognise how dogs communicate and when they need space.

🐾 Safe interactions – Teaching children how to behave safely and respectfully around dogs.

🐾 Building positive relationships – Helping children and dogs feel comfortable, understood and secure around one another.

💛 Progress doesn’t always mean stroking a dog.

Sometimes it’s being able to walk past one without feeling frightened.

Sometimes it’s choosing to stay in the same room.

And sometimes it’s simply smiling when a dog walks by.

Every small step matters, and every achievement deserves celebrating! 🌈

Because our goal isn’t just to help children feel less afraid of dogs — it’s to give them the knowledge, confidence and understanding to navigate a world where dogs are part of everyday life.

🐶 Building confidence, one paw at a time. 🐾

📩 If your child is frightened of dogs, or you’d like them to learn how to interact safely and confidently, please get in touch.

🐾❤️ FROM FEAR TO FRIENDSHIP – ***’s AMAZING JOURNEY! ❤️🐾

This is why I absolutely LOVE what I do! 🥰

One of the most rewarding parts of being a Kids Around Dogs (KAD) Approved Professional is hearing how much a child’s confidence has grown, not just during our sessions, but in everyday life.

When *** first started the KAD Fear of Dogs Protocol, he wasn’t comfortable being around dogs, including Penelope, a dog belonging to a family friend.

Fast forward to this week, and I received the most wonderful update from his family! ❤️

🐶 *** has been happily playing fetch with Penelope in the garden.

💧 He’s been getting her fresh water and helping to look after her.

❤️ He’s developing a lovely relationship with a dog he previously didn’t feel comfortable being around.

And perhaps the loveliest part of all?

*** has specifically asked for Penelope to be part of his final KAD session! 🥹🐾

What an incredible transformation!

But this journey isn’t simply about learning to like dogs.

It’s about helping children:

🌟 Understand canine body language and communication.

🌟 Feel safe and confident around dogs.

🌟 Develop empathy and respect for dogs and their individual needs.

🌟 Build confidence through positive experiences, at their own pace.

🌟 Feel empowered to make their own choices about interacting with dogs.

The goal is never to force a child to interact with a dog. It’s to give them the understanding, skills and confidence to make those choices for themselves.

Seeing *** choose to spend time with Penelope, enjoy playing with her and show genuine care for her wellbeing is such a wonderful example of how far he’s come.

I’m incredibly proud of *** and all the hard work he and his family have put into this journey. ❤️

From being unsure around Penelope to actively seeking out her company — what a beautiful friendship is developing! 🐕💕

If your child is frightened of dogs, please know that progress is possible. With patience, understanding and the right support, we can help children build confidence around dogs without pressure or fear.

FEAR OF DOGS IS REAL - BUT PROGRESS IS POSSIBLE.

For a child who is frightened of dogs, everyday situations can feel overwhelming.

A dog walking towards them in the park.
Visiting a friend who owns a dog.
Passing a dog on the pavement.
Even hearing barking nearby.

It's completely understandable that hearing "Don't worry, they're friendly" may not make the fear go away. Your child's feelings are real, and they deserve to be met with warmth, patience, kindness and understanding.

As a Kids Around Dogs Approved Professional, I can support children aged 4+ using the KAD Protocol to Overcome the Fear of Dogs.

The programme is:

- Gentle, supportive, and child-led
- Guided by your child's individual pace
- Focused on building confidence and understanding
- Never about forcing interaction with a dog
- Designed to help children develop positive, safe experiences around dogs.

There is no pressure to rush, and every small step matters. With the right support, those small steps can lead to meaningful, positive changes.

If fear of dogs is affecting your child or limiting the things your family can enjoy together, please get in touch to find out more. We'll take the time to listen, offer reassurance and support your child gently at their own pace.

Dogs communicate mainly through body language, using lots of different signals to show how they’re feeling. 🐕

The Steps of Fear can help us recognise when a dog is becoming uncomfortable, worried or overwhelmed. Dogs won’t necessarily show every signal or follow them in a set order—some may happen very quickly.

The important thing is to notice and respect these signals. Growling, snarling and other stronger behaviours are still communication, not something to punish. When we recognise the earlier signs and respond by creating space or removing the dog from the situation, we can help them feel safe before they need to escalate.
