I’ve been meaning to write something about Lumi for a while, but honestly… I needed a little time to recover first. 😂
It’s been a little over a week since she came into our lives, and I think I can now officially say that everything people tell you about Bengal kittens being “very active” is a massive understatement.
They are not just active.
They are CRAZY. 😂
Lumi is 13 weeks old and somehow already has enough energy for about five cats.
She can go from sleeping peacefully in my arms, completely relaxed, belly up, looking like the sweetest little angel in the world… to suddenly launching herself across the room at full speed.
She has also developed a very specific love language.
First she climbs onto me, starts licking my face, purrs, kneads me with her paws and makes it very clear that I am her favourite person in the entire world.
Then, without warning, she bites me.
Then she licks me again.
Then she kneads me.
Then she bites me again.
And five minutes later she is asleep in my arms as if absolutely nothing happened. 😂
She also treats my clothes as climbing equipment.
Apparently I am not a human being. I am a very convenient indoor climbing frame.
She climbs up my trousers, climbs up my tops, hangs off my clothes and generally seems to believe that getting from the floor to my shoulder is a perfectly reasonable thing to do several times a day.
Then there are the plants.
I had plants.
Lumi had other plans.
She has knocked over pots, dug in the soil, investigated every single leaf and generally decided that my house would look much better with the contents of my flowerpots distributed across the floor. 🌱😂
Playing is another story altogether.
She can play for what feels like hours. She has already managed to destroy some of her toys, and right now my slippers have apparently become the most exciting toy in the house.
And then there was the conservatory door.
I genuinely did not expect this from a 13-week-old kitten.
She figured out how to open it.
Yes. The door.
She has worked out that if she pushes/pulls at exactly the right place, she can get herself outside because she wants to explore the garden.
So now we have two options: lock her in or take her outside on a harness and lead. 😂
And the funniest thing is that none of this feels particularly naughty.
She is incredibly affectionate, extremely curious, very clever and completely fearless.
She wants to be involved in absolutely everything.
Whatever I am doing, she wants to investigate.
Whatever I am touching, she wants to investigate.
Whatever I am eating, she definitely wants to investigate.
Whatever door is closed… clearly needs to be opened.
Whatever object is sitting somewhere quietly… clearly needs to be knocked over.
And somehow, after all the chaos, she will climb onto my chest, start purring, knead my arm, roll onto her back and fall asleep looking completely innocent.
So, after just over a week of living with a growing Bengal, my conclusion is:
When people say Bengals are energetic, they really should explain what they mean. 😂
They mean climbing.
They mean running.
They mean jumping.
They mean opening doors.
They mean destroying toys.
They mean attacking slippers.
They mean rearranging your plants.
They mean using you as a climbing frame.
They mean licking you, biting you, cuddling you and then doing the whole thing again five minutes later.
They are absolutely, completely and wonderfully crazy.
And honestly?
I wouldn’t change a thing. ❤️🐆
