🎉Cwtch & Care is 1! 🎉

Today marks ONE YEAR of Cwtch & Care! 🥳

I can't believe it's already been a whole year since I made my first post and officially started my little pet-sitting journey!

Over the past year, I've had the pleasure of looking after so many wonderful animals – from dogs and cats to guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, chickens, ducks and more!

Every animal has their own personality, routines and little quirks, and it's been amazing getting to know so many of them over the past year. 💚

A huge thank you to everyone who has booked with me, recommended me, shared my posts, followed the page or supported Cwtch & Care in any way. Every booking and every bit of support has helped my small business grow, and I really do appreciate it!

⭐ A little favour from me⭐

If I've looked after your pets at any point over the past year, I'd really appreciate it if you could leave me a review on my page.

Reviews make a huge difference to a small business like mine and help potential new clients feel confident when choosing someone to look after their pets. Even just a few minutes to share your experience would mean a lot to me! 🐾

Thank you for an amazing first year of Cwtch & Care! 🥳🐾💚

❤️ Tip of the Week #52 – Every Pet is Different ❤️

Over the past year, I've shared 52 tips covering everything from heatwaves and muddy paws to routines and enrichment.

If there's one thing I've learned from looking after so many wonderful pets, it's this...

Every pet is different.

Some love long walks, while others would rather curl up on the sofa.

Some enjoy meeting everyone they see, while others are happiest with a quiet cuddle at home.

Some will eat anything you put in front of them... and others will inspect every meal before deciding if it's acceptable! 😄

The best thing we can do as owners is get to know our own pets – their personalities, routines, likes, dislikes, and what makes them feel happy and safe.

There's no "one-size-fits-all" approach to pet care.

Taking the time to understand your pet is one of the greatest gifts you can give them. 🐶🐱💚

Thank you for following my Tip of the Week series over the past year. I hope you've found these posts helpful! Although this is the final weekly tip, I'll still be sharing updates, photos, and plenty more from Cwtch & Care. My website will be having a revamp soon too so keep an eye out for that!

🐾 Tip of the Week #51 – Let Dogs Stop and Sniff 🐾

Walks aren't just about exercise – they're also a chance for dogs to explore the world around them.

Stopping to sniff is one of the ways dogs gather information, and it's a great form of mental enrichment.

Remember to:
✨ Let your dog stop and sniff during walks where it's safe to do so.
✨ Don't rush every walk – sometimes slower is better.
✨ Explore different routes to provide new scents and experiences.
✨ If your dog has good recall and you're in a safe, permitted area, giving them some off-lead time can allow them to explore more naturally.
✨ If your dog isn't quite ready for off-lead adventures, a long training lead can be a great alternative, giving them more freedom while keeping them safe.

A walk isn't just about the distance you cover – it's about the experience your dog has along the way. 💚

👉 Is your dog a 'sniff every blade of grass' type, or do they like to keep moving? Let me know in the comments!

🐾 Tip of the Week #50 – Check Under Paws After Every Walk 🐾

Whether it's a walk through the countryside, the park, or around town, it's always worth taking a quick look at your pet's paws when you get home. It only takes a minute and can help spot small problems before they become bigger ones.

Things to look for:
✨ Small stones stuck between paw pads
✨ Grass seeds or thorns
✨ Cuts or grazes
✨ Cracked or dry paw pads
✨ Anything unusual your pet keeps licking or chewing

Making paw checks part of your routine can help keep walks enjoyable and prevent minor issues from becoming painful.

👉 It only takes a minute, but your pet will thank you! 🐶

🐾 Tip of the Week #49 – Water Isn't Just for Drinking 🐾

With the hot weather we've been experiencing recently, it's worth remembering that water can help pets in more ways than one.

Keeping your pet cool doesn't always mean getting them soaking wet.

Try these simple ideas:
✨ Place a cool, damp towel on the floor for your pet to lie on or near (if they choose to)
✨ provide fresh water little and often throughout the day
✨ Fill a paddling pool with a shallow amount of water for dogs that enjoy it (always supervise if you do this)
✨ Freeze pet-safe treats inside a toy for longer-lasting enrichment
✨ Let your pet decide where they're most comfortable – some prefer cool tiles, others like a shaded bed

Remember, every pet is different. Some love water, while others would rather avoid it completely!

A little creativity can help make hot days much more comfortable for our furry friends.

Has your pet found their favourite cool spot yet? If so, I would love to see some photos in the comments!!

🧸 Tip of the Week #48 – Rotate Your Pet's Toys 🧸

Just like us, pets can get bored if they see the same toys every day. Instead of buying lots of new toys, try rotating the ones you already have.

Here's how:
✨ Leave out 3–4 toys at a time
✨ Put the others away for a week or two
✨ Swap them over regularly
✨ Check toys for damage before putting them back out
✨ Reward calm play and interaction

Bringing an "old" toy back after a couple of weeks often feels brand new to your pet!

👉 A simple way to keep playtime exciting without spending a penny.

🐾 Tip of the Week #47 – Keep Your Pet's Routine Consistent 🐾

Summer often means holidays, days out, and changes to our usual schedules. While that's exciting for us, many pets thrive on routine.

Keeping things as consistent as possible can help them feel more relaxed and settled.

A few things to keep consistent:
✨ Feed meals at roughly the same time each day
✨ Stick to regular walk times where possible
✨ Keep bedtime routines familiar
✨ Let your pet sitter know about your pet's usual routine before you go away
✨ If plans change, try to introduce new routines gradually rather than all at once

Pets don't tell the time, but they quickly learn patterns and routines. Keeping those familiar can help reduce stress and make them feel more secure 🐶🐱💚

☀️ Tip of the Week #46 – Keep Your Home Cooler During a Heatwave ☀️

With the current heatwave and warm weather warnings in place, it's not just our pets that can struggle with the heat, our homes can quickly become uncomfortable too.

A few simple ways to keep temperatures down:

✨ Close curtains or blinds on sun-facing windows during the day
✨ Open windows early in the morning or later in the evening when it's cooler
✨ Keep internal doors open to improve airflow around the house
✨ Use fans safely and ensure pets can move away from them if they wish
✨ Make sure fresh water is available for both people and pets throughout the day

It can feel strange shutting out the sunshine, but direct sunlight through windows can significantly warm up a room. A few small changes can help keep everyone more comfortable during hot spells

👉 What's your favourite way to keep your home cool in the summer?

🐾 Tip of the Week #45 – Leave Clear Instructions for Your Pet Sitter 🐾
Whether it's a pop-in visit, dog walk, or house sit, clear instructions help ensure your pet receives the best possible care.
Even if you've used the same sitter before, routines can change!
Helpful things to include:
✨ Feeding amounts and times
✨ Walk routines and favourite routes
✨ Medication instructions (if needed)
✨ Emergency contact details
✨ Any quirks, fears, or habits your pet has
The more information your sitter has, the easier it is to keep your pet happy, comfortable, and settled while you're away

Never assume something is "too obvious" to mention — every little detail helps!

🐾 Tip of the Week #44 – Double Check Garden Gates Before Letting Dogs Out 🐾

With more people spending time in gardens lately, gates can sometimes get left open without anyone realising.

A quick check can help avoid a stressful situation.

Things worth checking:
✨ Garden gates are fully shut and latched
✨ Side entrances haven’t been left open
✨ Fences are secure especially after windy weather
✨ Visitors know if pets are in the garden
✨ Dogs are supervised in unfamiliar gardens

Even the most well-behaved dogs can get curious or distracted

👉 One quick check can prevent a big panic!
