We had an unexpected visitor at Shanklin Police Station today 🐶

This is Max and he is a (potential) new recruit - we are certainly all hoping he will join us on the beat when he is a little bigger!

Max's visit is a good reminder for Dog Watch!

Dog Watch is an initiative that encourages dog walkers to be pro-active and vigilant in their area whilst out walking their dogs. This is because they are often the first people out and about in the mornings, and the last ones out at night. They are then able to report any unusual observations, suspicious activity or anti-social behaviour back to the relevant authority.

It’s important to note that at no time will dog walkers be expected to intervene in any incidents. Their role will be to simply report information to the police, council and partner agencies and vice versa, so together the community and authorities can help make neighbourhoods safer.

Members of the public who walk their dogs in Hampshire and the IOW that are interested in joining the scheme will need to register to join https://orlo.uk/CKRYL and select the 'Dog Watch' group.

Whilst you are registering - take the opportunity to complete a survey and let us know the priorities for your area!

Our current priorities, which are set by you, for the North East and South Wight are -

- Disrupt Drug Use and Supply
- Tackle Anti-Social Behaviour
- Tackle Anti-Social use of vehicles and road safety

PC Trotman and PC Beeson had some success whilst targeting these priories in Ryde over the weekend. Their proactive cycle patrols led to two vehicles (including an illegal motorbike) being seized under section 165 of the Road Traffic Act and four stop searches being completed. Your Local Bobbies and PCSO's are out on foot and cycle patrols throughout our beats across the South and North East of the Island.

Have a great week!
