The RKC have launched a ‘find a breeder’.

They used to have the scheme for assured breeders. I was one: home visit, interview, extensive mandatory health tests and fee.

They abandoned that scheme but have come up with this new ‘find a breeder’.

It’s a bit of a faff for most to join but you only have to have ‘good practice’ health tests (PRA and AMS) and you can’t have sable dogs (so only breed standard colours). And if you’re licenced, you have to send a copy of that to them. It does let people know of you specialise in show or working and you can add a profile which you couldn’t before. It’s free.

There are basic checks undertaken by the KC but no where near what there were under the assured breeder scheme. The links to dogs are dynamic so you can easily see the tests. That may put some breeders off listing as gaps in tests can be easily seen.

I like it. What do you think? I hope they evolve it to studs one day.

Currently, 17 of the 88 litters have a best practice test parent on the KC ‘find a puppy’, only two were the mums. Rest were the studs.

Tonight I have to do my assessment write-up on foster dog Percy for Spaniel Aid.
So I asked him for his feedback and here is my in-depth interview with him and what he would like in his new home.
There’s the Interview with a Vampire, and then there’s an Interview with Percy - and I know which was easier 😆.
