"It's that time of year again. Nights are drawing in, so I'm lit up like a glow stick. Mum can find me in the dark now. Sadly, that includes when I'm sniffing where I shouldn't."

Did you know that nine years ago today Milo won best trick in the inaugural Daily Echo's Pet Nation Dog Show?

What trick we hear you ask? Jumping through a hula hoop on mum's head while she was sitting ⭕

The humans ordered breakfast. So did I." — Milo, on his £1.85 sausage.

Clifftop breakfast at Café Riva. Veggie breakfast and eggs Florentine for us; a dog sausage for him, and the staff went and asked the kitchen when we checked whether it was gluten-free — that mattered. Water bowls, umbrellas, on-road parking, dogs welcome in and out.

He also inspected the tray afterwards in case the kitchen had missed anything. They hadn't. Full write-up — https://pawpicks.co.uk/posts/cafe-riva-southbourne/

"Putting my best paw forwards. My left one, naturally"

A little fact about me: I’m left-pawed. 🐾
Mum has noticed I favour my left paw. Have you spotted which paw your dog tends to use?

Twelve years old, still outsmarts the puzzle board. 🧠

New on PawPicks: Milo's rotating enrichment kit — a couple of puzzle toys we swap in and out, a snuffle mat I made from a mat and fleece offcuts, and the find-it games that cost nothing but a handful of his dinner.

Full read, and the wide-eyed concentration face, at the link in bio. 🐾

Flowers for us, ice cream for Milo. 🌼🍦

We took Milo to Brothers Farm for a flower-filled day out. The parking was easy, the paths were flat, and dogs were welcome inside the café as well as outside. We chose a table outdoors under an umbrella, which suited a black dog in August rather well.

Milo enjoyed a good sniff, showed absolutely no interest in the flower field, took his doggy ice cream extremely seriously, and then sat down to let us know he was ready to leave.

4 out of 5 paws — we’d happily go back.

Full outing notes are now on PawPickshttps://pawpicks.co.uk/posts/brothers-farm-outing/

Fun Milo fact: he has three beds of his own, but still prefers ours. 😂

He’s perfected the art of curling into a tiny guilty donut and somehow taking up the best bit of the bed every time. 💛

Milo’s post-dental dental-care review is live 🐾

After his dental extractions, we’ve been trying a few manageable maintenance options:

🦷 Soopa Dental Sticks — 4/5
Milo chomps them easily, clearly enjoys them and manages the texture comfortably. The main drawback is that the packaging isn’t resealable.

🦷 ProDen PlaqueOff — 3/5
Easy to mix into food and Milo happily eats it. His teeth look clean and his breath is better, but we’ve only used it for a few weeks, so we can’t separate its effect from the infected-tooth removal and professional cleaning. The tub lasts ages; the tiny scoop is rather annoying.

🦷 Finger toothbrushes — 5/5
The surprise winner. Milo used to hate tooth brushing, but now he tolerates around 30 seconds calmly. That makes gradually building a consistent brushing routine realistic.

How we help Milo stay comfortable in hot weather ☀️🐾

Milo has his own Aldi cool bed, which he happily uses — but it’s a Specialbuy and isn’t currently available, so we’ve also looked at some alternatives.

Our new post covers:

- his cool bed;
- our lick-mat review — 4/5;
- our frozen-treat tray review — 3/5;
- a researched cooling-mat recommendation, clearly marked as not tested by us.

Milo used the lick mat very willingly. Frozen yoghurt kept him occupied for around ten minutes, which is exactly what we wanted, and it was easy to fill, freeze and clean. The only drawback was the occasional yoghurt splatter on the window. 😂

We’ve also included an important note about frozen treats and dogs who have had dental extractions.
