Flashback to my earlier walk with the remarkable Robin. Robin was super respectful when greeting Ann and George (human friends) when he was reminded to sit. Robin did a lovely sit before becoming over - excited again. Just a reminder to all you pet pawrents out there, it really is okay for your dog to make mistakes but what is really important to remember is that we act on them to teach our dogs what the right choices are. This sets our furry friends up for success and gives them a good ol' confidence boost too! So next time, if your dog makes a mistake, don't get too overwhelmed, its all just a learning curve. Trust the process and believe in yourself! You're doing great! ❤️🐾

Todays pupdate - Robin has excelled himself on todays walk, walking passed many people on a loose leash with a wagging tail but no lunging to say hello whatsoever! Well done Robin, keep up the good work big lad 🐶🙌

How do i correctly socialise my dog?

Contray to what many dog owners think, initially socialising your dog to other dogs does not look like your dog racing around a field with lots of other dogs. In many cases, regardless of the handler, it is not a question of if something will happen, it's when. Your goal to introducing your dog to other dogs should initially be by following the three second rule.

🐾 Allow your leaded dog to greet the opposing dog for three seconds, then call them away. If BOTH dogs want to go back, take this as a cue that it is safe to continue. If not, then it is time to move on.

🐾 Dog parks can be unpredictable. It is generally best to set up play days with reliable dog owners who embed well behaved manners into their dogs and encourage recall.

🐾 If you dog shows anxiety or nervousness, ensure that you give a proximity boundery, gradually narrowing the gap but only when they are ready.

Key points to remember...

✋️ Never allow your dog to run at full speed towards an opposing dog that they do not know. This is not only disrespectful of other dogs and their space but it is also dangerous!

✋️ Never allow your dog to greet every dog and person that they pass, this will very much prove to be a nusience as your pup grows. Neutrality and control is key in proper dog socialisation. Create calm, not chaos.

✋️ If your dog does not want to greet other dogs then that is okay. Although in an ideal world, all dogs would love to play with one another, forced interation and 'hoping for the best' should never be encoraged and could end in devestation. Prolonged forced exposure could also put you at a disadvantage, making your dog reactive or even aggressive.

More flourishing friendships with the Trixie’s Treks and Trixie’s Trails crew on todays walk with Izzy and Lando on their first ever walk together.

Following an initial meet, Izzy and Lando showed further curiosity about eachother and were keen to approach one another once again for a sniff. They were super gentle and super respectful of eachothers space and walked like a dream together!

Well done Izzy and Lando. I am so proud of you both ❤️🐾

Flashback to my walkies with the iconic Izzy!

Over the coming weeks, Izzy has shared a group walk with a number of her furry friends and has walked beautifully alongside them.

Well done Izzy! You have come a long way with your confidence in welcoming some new faces ❤️🐾

Major shout out to the amazing Izzy for her razor sharp response to my verbal corrections and giving some lovely loose leash walking 🥳🙌

Just a gentle reminder that this can sometimes be down to the handler when greeting the dog. The key is to stay calm to encourage a neutral state in the dog prior to leaving the house, rather than hyping them up. I think that most dog lovers are guilty of this sometimes which can then set the dog up to fail when out on their walk 🙈

Changing up the approach to create calm instead of chaos has most certainly paid off today!

Well done Izzy, keep it up sweetheart!

A massive shout out to the remarkable Rocco for his impulse control on todays walk.

Rocco has demonstrated the perfect mix of neutrality and playfulness when walking alongside his furry friends. Rocco is beginning to understand that on lead time is for walking and has even started taking cues from his furry friends when they communicate that they do not want to play.

Well done Rocco. This is an incredibly hard skill for such a young pup to master but you have most certainly smashed it today!

Keep it up sweetheart ❤️🐾
