Yesterday, these 8 little wood pigeons got to experience something very special… 🥹🌿🕊️

For the first time since coming into my care, they were given the chance to step outside into the flight extension, feel the fresh air, explore, stretch their wings and the opportunity to bathe themselves as well as just being… well, little wood pigeons! 😂

The resident feral pigeons decided they weren’t coming out of their aviary yesterday, so I took the opportunity to let these little ones have the whole flight to themselves. 🌳

And honestly… they absolutely LOVED it! 🤩

Watching them explore, play, flap around and investigate every little corner was one of those moments that makes all the sleepless nights, cleaning and hard work completely worth it. ✅

They’ve still got a way to go before they’re ready for the big wide world, but yesterday was a pretty special step towards that freedom. 🕊️

I genuinely had NO idea whether Prince would even know how to bathe, let alone actually enjoy it… but apparently I underestimated this little man 😂

He absolutely LOVED it! 🪽💦

He thoroughly enjoyed splashing around, fluffing himself up and having a proper little spa session before deciding he’d had enough and hopping out. 🕊️

Although… he did need a little assistance because apparently being soaking wet makes a Ghent Cropper considerably heavier than expected 😆

And then, instead of finding somewhere sensible to dry himself… 🪶

He jumped straight onto my leg. 🤍

So apparently I am now Prince’s personal drying perch. 🤣

Watching a rescued pigeon experience something so simple and thoroughly enjoy it is honestly one of the sweetest things. 🐦

He clearly knew exactly what he was doing — and he definitely knew when he’d had enough! 🛁

I've never wanted Percy's Pigeon Preserve to be a rescue that relies on donations.

Since day one, every bird that's come through our doors has been cared for using my own money. Food, medication, vet treatment, cleaning supplies, housing, transport... it's all come from my own back pocket because these birds deserve a chance, and I made a commitment to give them one.

That said, every donation we've ever received has made a genuine difference and has helped take a little of the pressure off during particularly busy periods. I'll always be incredibly grateful to everyone who's supported the rescue in any way, whether that's through donating, sharing our posts or simply cheering us on.

Unfortunately, this month has been one of our busiest yet, with an influx of poorly, injured and orphaned pigeons needing our help. As you can imagine, that also means a significant increase in the cost of food, medication and day-to-day care.

With that in mind, I've been looking at a few different ways people can support Percy's Pigeon Preserve, should they wish to.

🛒 Amazon Wishlist

I've created an Amazon Wishlist for those who'd prefer to donate essential items rather than money. Everything on the list is something the rescue genuinely needs and will be put straight to use caring for the birds.

💙 PayPal

I've also set up a dedicated PayPal account purely for Percy's Pigeon Preserve, and this is now our preferred way of receiving monetary donations.

Our Go Fund Me has been absolutely fantastic, and I'm so grateful for everyone who's donated through it. However, donations can take around 5–7 days to reach us, and fundraising fees mean we don't receive the full amount straight away. PayPal allows donations to reach the rescue much faster and with fewer deductions, meaning we can buy supplies when they're needed most.

Our Go Fund Me will, of course, remain open for anyone who prefers using it. Every contribution, regardless of how it's made, is appreciated beyond words.

Please don't ever feel obliged to donate. I know times are tough, and simply following our journey, reacting to our posts and sharing them with others helps more than you probably realise.
