Meet "The Management"
This is Akira. Akira is Elizabeth's dog, and she is a 5 year old German Shepherd. German Shepherds are one of the most intelligent, work focused, energetic, driven, and loyal dog breeds, and despite the introduction of the Belgian Malinois in recent years, they still remain to be a much used dog in the police and armed forces. Akira did not get this memo, her favourite things to do are sleeping, going out adventuring with all the friends she has made at Manypaws - and sleeping some more.
Akira does, however, have one very common German Shepherd trait, and that is reactivity. Dogs can be reactive for many reasons, some are just born that way and some become reactive due to an "event". With Akira its just the way she was born, and it is fear that drives it - yes that scary looking dog, barking and lunging like she's on an episode of Police Interceptors is scared of everything!
So why does a reactive dog come out to work with other dogs? The simple answer is because she's so good at her job, and all of the dogs she meets love her! (It surprised us too!)
We have done a lot of work over the last few years to build Akiras confidence, and show her that the world isn't so scary, and we have an incredible bond based on trust, which has resulted in the dog that used to be walked in secluded areas on high alert, being able to get a job playing with other dogs - and boy does she love to play with her friends!
Akira has become an invaluable member of Manypaws over the last year. She has helped bring timid dogs out of their shell by being a calm strong presence that they can cling to while they build some courage of their own, and she can rough play and chase with the more boisterous dogs to make sure they go home happy and tired.
Akira takes her job very seriously, and you can rest assured that with her watching over your own pup, they are safe, happy, and always under her protection.
