🐴 Meet Rose 🐴

A recent saddle fitting for 19-year-old Rose, a lovely Welsh D who has recently joined her new owner on loan.

Rose is particularly broad over her wither with some shape through her back, so we’re on the hunt for a saddle that will suit her conformation and give her the comfort and freedom she needs.

For now, we’ve found a good temporary solution in a Wintec Wide, which will keep Rose comfortable while we search for a Cavaletti GP.

The perfect saddle can take a little time to find, so there’s no rush to settle for something that isn’t quite right! 🤎

Now to keep an eye on The Saddle Bank and see what we can find for this lovely girl. 🔎🐴

🧵 A simple repair can make all the difference.

This saddle came in with the stitching on the saddle flap coming loose where it attaches to the knee roll. Rather than stitching over the old thread, I removed the worn stitching completely before carefully re-stitching it with new, strong thread to ensure a secure and tidy repair.

It’s often the small repairs that help keep your saddle looking its best and in good working order.

If you’ve noticed loose stitching or any other signs of wear on your saddle, feel free to get in touch to discuss whether a repair is suitable.

Myth Busting: Adjustable Gullet Bar Saddles – One Size Does NOT Fit All

One of the biggest myths I come across is that an adjustable gullet bar saddle will fit any horse because the width can be changed.

While adjustable gullets can be incredibly useful, they’re only one piece of the puzzle. A correctly fitting saddle also depends on the tree shape, panel configuration, saddle length, balance, and how it performs when your horse is moving.

If you’ve ever been told that an adjustable saddle will fit every horse, this blog is for you.

Head over to my website to read more and find out why a saddle should always be assessed as a whole—not just by its gullet width.

Have you heard this myth before? Let me know in the comments! 👇

Adjustable gullet bar saddles have gained popularity as a flexible solution for fitting different horses. The idea that one saddle can fit all horses by simply adjusting the gullet width sounds appealing. Yet, this belief overlooks important factors that affect saddle fit and horse comfort. This pos...

Think saddle fitting is just putting a saddle on and seeing if it looks right? 🤔🐴

Not quite…

Before we even talk about saddles, we’re looking at the horse in front of us 👇

✔️ Condition scoring
✔️ Conformation assessment
✔️ Back assessment
✔️ Gait analysis
✔️ Templating
✔️ Chalk marks
✔️ Static assessment
✔️ Ridden assessment

Every stage gives us valuable information to help find the best solution for both horse and rider.

Because a saddle should work with your horse’s body, not against it. ✨

Which part of the process surprised you most? Let me know below! ⬇️
