We’re looking for someone who is:
✨ A qualified Registered Veterinary Nurse
✨ Ideally with at least 3 years’ experience
✨ Caring, enthusiastic and passionate about providing excellent patient care
✨ A great team player who enjoys working in a friendly, supportive environment

As a Veterinary Nurse, you’ll play a vital role in the day-to-day care of our patients, including:

🐶 Providing hands-on nursing care and monitoring patients
🐱 Assisting vets with consultations, procedures and surgery
💉 Anaesthesia monitoring and inpatient care
🩺 Preparing patients and equipment for procedures
💊 Administering medications and providing ongoing treatment
❤️ Supporting and reassuring pets and their owners
📋 Maintaining high standards of patient welfare, hygiene and clinical care

Proud to Support Our Local Community 💚🐾

At Highland Health Vets, we believe that being a local veterinary practice is about more than caring for pets — it’s about caring for the community and the pets who are such an important part of family life.

That’s why we’re proud to support local clubs and organisations, including Lovat Shinty Club in Kiltarlity.
Founded in 1888, Lovat Shinty Club has a long and proud history, although shinty was played in the village even before the club was established. The club takes its name from its Chieftain, Lord Lovat, whose predecessor was the first President of the Camanachd Association in 1893.

Lovat enjoyed a remarkable period of success in the early 1950s, winning every trophy available to them, including the Glasgow Celtic Society Cup. More recently, the club won the MacTavish Cup in 2013 and 2014, followed by the Camanachd Cup in 2015. The Ladies team have also lifted the Challenge Cup twice, in 2016 and 2019. 🏆

Off the park, the club has recently completed its fantastic new community pavilion, providing a wonderful facility for players, families and the wider community.

The senior team are currently in a period of transition following the retirement of a number of players, but are working hard in the National League with promotion back to the Premier League firmly in their sights. With just 2 points needed from their final 3 games, it’s an exciting time for the club!

We’re delighted to support Lovat Shinty Club and the people who make it such an important part of the local community.

As family vets, we’re here to care for the community and their pets — providing friendly, compassionate veterinary care for your beloved four-legged family members, while supporting the clubs, families and communities around us. 🐶🐱🐾

🐾 Veterinary Receptionist – Maternity Cover 🐾

Highland Health Vets are looking for a friendly, caring and enthusiastic Veterinary Receptionist to join our team on a fixed-term maternity cover contract.
The position is for 24 hours per week (Morning and evening shifts) including one in three Saturdays, 9am–1pm for reception cover. There is also the possibility that the role may become permanent following the fixed-term contract.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day running of our reception, including:

🐶 Welcoming clients and their pets and providing a warm, professional first point of contact
📞 Answering telephone calls and dealing with client enquiries
📅 Booking and managing appointments
💳 Processing payments and handling cash/card transactions
💊 Processing medication and food orders and providing appropriate client guidance
📋 Updating and maintaining accurate client and patient records
🩺 Liaising with veterinary surgeons, nurses and the wider practice team
📦 Receiving deliveries and managing stock
✉️ Dealing with emails and general administration
🧹 Helping to maintain a clean, organised and welcoming reception area
❤️ Providing compassionate and sensitive support to clients, particularly during difficult or emotional situations
🐾 Promoting excellent client care and maintaining confidentiality at all times
Previous experience working in a veterinary reception role is preferred, although full training will be provided for the right candidate. We are looking for someone who is organised, approachable, confident communicating with people, able to work as part of a team and, most importantly, genuinely passionate about providing excellent care to both our clients and their pets.
💷 Hourly rate: depending on experience.

A very special little member of the Highland Health Vets family ❤️🐾

Many of you will recognise Lilyanna, the daughter of our founders and owners, Dominique and Lukas. Lilyanna is a familiar and much-loved face around the practice, often found happily greeting our wonderful clients and their pets. Her gentle nature and love of animals can even help to ease some of the nerves and stress that can come with a visit to the vets. 🥰🐶🐱

Just like her mum and dad, Lilyanna has a real passion for animals, but she also shares another special love — art. 🎨

Recently, with the guidance of her Granny Mira, Mira Staszowska, who is herself an artist, Lilyanna painted this beautiful portrait in memory of a very treasured patient we were lucky enough to care for regularly — little Poppy. 🌈🐾

Poppy was such a special little lady who touched the hearts of everyone at Highland Health Vets. Lilyanna’s beautiful painting is a wonderful and heartfelt tribute to her, capturing the love and affection she brought to those who knew her.

We are so proud of Lilyanna and the thought, creativity and love she has put into this very special piece. ❤️

🌱 GRASS SEED SEASON IS HERE! 🌱

At Highland Health Vets, we’ve already seen a few cases of grass seed foreign bodies this season — thankfully, we’ve been able to treat them promptly. 🐾💚

Grass seeds can cause painful problems for both dogs and cats because of their shape and tiny barbs, which allow them to work their way into the skin and tissues rather than simply falling out.

🐶 In dogs, keep an eye out for:
• Persistent licking, chewing or biting at one area
• Redness, swelling, soreness or discharge
• Sudden lameness or holding a paw up
• Swollen paws or areas between the toes
• Head shaking, scratching at the ears or a sore ear
• Sneezing, nasal discharge or repeated bouts of sneezing
• Lethargy or signs of pain

Grass seeds can commonly embed between the toes, in paws, under the skin, around the armpits and groin, and in the ears.

Ear grass seeds can be particularly troublesome and may need to be carefully located and removed, sometimes requiring sedation depending on where they have travelled.

🌾 And it’s not just grass seeds…
Grass blades and plant material can also become lodged in the nose/nasal cavity of dogs and cats. This can cause irritation and inflammation, leading to repeated sneezing, nasal discharge and, if infection develops, more persistent symptoms.

🐱 Cats can also be affected, particularly by plant material becoming caught in the nose, mouth or paws.

Repeated sneezing, nasal discharge, pawing at the face or sudden irritation should always be checked.

🔎 After walks and outdoor adventures, check your pet carefully, paying particular attention to paws, between the toes, ears, face and other areas where grass seeds can become trapped.

If you notice any of these signs, don’t wait for the problem to worsen — contact Highland Health Vets for advice. Early investigation and removal can help prevent a small grass seed problem becoming a much more serious one. 🌱🐕🐈

🌸🐾 From farm girl to retirement in style! 🐾🌸

Meet the beautiful Bree 💕 Once a hardworking farm girl enjoying her fun-filled working days, Bree is now enjoying a well-deserved retirement in style and luxury with her wonderful new family.

After settling into her new life, Bree began to lose her fur and developed some very painful crusts and sensitive, itchy skin. Her lovely new family were understandably concerned and brought her to us for a dermatology work-up with our certified dermatologist, Dominique.
After a thorough investigation, we discovered that Bree was suffering from environmental allergies. 🌿

🐾 What are the signs of environmental allergies in pets?

Environmental allergies can cause a variety of skin and ear problems. Signs to look out for include:

• 🐶 Frequent scratching, licking or chewing at the skin
• 🌸 Red, sore or sensitive skin
• 🐾 Hair loss or thinning coat
• 🤕 Crusts, scabs or irritated areas
• 👂 Recurrent ear infections or itchy ears
• 🐕 Licking or chewing at the paws
• 🌿 Increased itching at certain times of the year
• 💕 Restlessness or discomfort caused by persistent itching

If your pet is showing any of these signs, it’s worth speaking to your veterinary team. Allergies can be uncomfortable, but with the right diagnosis and personalised management, many pets can feel much more comfortable.

Our dermatologist, Dominique, takes the time to assess each individual pet and creates a tailored dermatology plan specifically for their needs. Every pet is different, and their treatment plan should be too. 🐾💕

Bree is now looking lush, her beautiful coat is growing back wonderfully and, most importantly, she is happy, comfortable and back to being her bright, bubbly and beautiful self! 🥰🐶
