With harvest season now in full swing, we thought it would be fun to compare the amount of waste we treated in August to some of your favourite harvest-time treats, plus a popular indoor sport now that the rainy weather has returned!

🍇 Food Waste Recycling Facility & Bio-Bee
Combined, Bio-Bee and the food waste recycling facility accepted the equivalent weight of 345 million blackberries. That's a lot of crumbles, jams, and blackberry pies!

🍎 Liquid Waste
Our liquid waste facility accepted enough waste to fill 27.25 million one-litre cartons of cloudy apple juice. If placed end to end, those cartons would stretch for hundreds of kilometres!

🏸 Compost
Our composting operation accepted enough waste to produce compost capable of covering 677 badminton courts.

A fantastic achievement by all teams, helping to turn waste into valuable resources. 👏

A Day in the Life of BioBee 🐝

Recently, Shona, one of our Customer Account Advisors, spent a sunny day out on the road with Barry, one of our BioBee Food Waste Collection Drivers.

As part of our Customer Team, Shona and Andi support customers with all BioBee enquiries from start to finish, from setting up new sites to managing invoicing and everything in between. To provide the very best service, it's essential that our team understands not only the customer journey but also the operational side of our food waste collection service.

Spending time alongside Barry gave Shona valuable first-hand insight into how BioBee operates day to day, the challenges our drivers can face, and the important role our customers play in helping collections run smoothly and efficiently.

By getting out into the field and seeing operations in action, our team can better understand our customers' needs, provide informed support, and continue delivering the high level of service we're proud of.

July brought the heat and GENeco rose to the challenge.

Our food hall and BioBee facilities accepted the equivalent weight of 4.1 million 2-litre tubs of ice cream.🍦

Our liquid treatment centres processed enough waste to equal 56 million pints of your favourite summer tipple🍺, while our composting sites handled enough material to cover 480 beach volleyball courts!🏐

That's a whole lot of waste transformed into valuable, sustainable resources!

A new financial year means a chance to look back and celebrate what we've achieved at GENeco.

Over the past year, our Customer Team received more calls and emails than ever before, and our operational teams have been busier than ever supporting customers with their waste management requirements.

We had a fantastic time at the Bristol Young Heroes Awards, hosted by Community of Purpose. This inspiring event celebrates the incredible achievements of young people across Bristol, and we are proud to be one of the sponsors of their Purposeful Pathways programme.

Our composting team handled the highest volume of material so far this year, processing an impressive 2,151.65 tonnes.!

To put that into perspective, if spread as soil at remediation depth, that's enough material to cover approximately 12 Wimbledon Centre Courts 🎾

Our Food Waste Recycling Facility and BioBee collections also had a busy month, collecting and treating enough food waste to equal the weight of around 34 million cheeseburgers! 🍔

Meanwhile, our liquid waste team treated the equivalent of 128 million mugs of tea, that's a lot of brews! ☕

A fantastic effort from all our teams, helping to turn waste into valuable resources and supporting the circular economy every day. 💚

We’re proud to sponsor Community of Purpose and their incredible Purposeful Pathways programme 🌟

This not-for-profit initiative is helping young people across Bristol build the skills, confidence and experience they need to succeed. Through mentoring, goal setting, networking opportunities and career workshops, alongside tailored support from peers and professionals, it’s truly changing lives.

The impact speaks for itself: nearly 90% of participants in 2023 said they feel more confident about their career prospects after taking part 🙌

With temperatures soaring, our teams have been working hard on site and feeling the full force of the heat. Looking after our people and our customers is always our top priority, especially during these lovely hot summer days!

To help everyone stay safe and comfortable, we’ve delivered bottled water across all areas of our Bristol site for customers to help themselves to. We also surprised our teams with some well deserved cold sweet treats! 🍦

Let’s all take a bit of extra care during this heat, looking out for one another and making sure we’re doing what we can to stay safe and well.

A huge thank you to everyone continuing to give their all in the very hot conditions. 👏
