Morning everyone,

There's been a lot going on here hence the lack of posts but WOW, thank you so much to each and every one of you! 😘 I have hopefully read and reacted to every comment and message - your support means the world! 🌎💖

Update:

The Tawny Owlets are AMAZING! The older one of the two, found locally, is almost ready for release and I'll be contacting his/her rescuers shortly to arrange a potential release date! The younger one isn't quite there yet 😔 Although eating, producing pellets, and flying a little, he/she is still not independent enough.

It's hard to know what's best in these situations, of course I'd like to release them together but you should always try and release them in the area they were found. Also, it wouldn't be fair to hold the older one back, whilst waiting for the younger one to catch up. I have been putting them together because it's important they are familiar with their own kind and do not stay dependent on me, but ultimately I will probably have to release them separately 😢

The good news is however, the younger one brought to me by a lovely couple, has an amazing area to go back to. There are clearly other owls in the area and he/she can be soft released there so always a silver lining 🥰

I have a few things to mention but for now, just enjoy watching these two 🦉❤️🦉❤️

I purchased this owl puppet as I'd seen other rescues use them to help prevent imprinting. I showed Miracle and well...I don't think she was impressed 😂😂

Morning 😊

Wherever I can, I try to expose the youngsters to things they will experience in the wild and the weather is no exception! When it's raining, they need to find shelter and when it's windy, well they need to hang on 😆

This video was filmed yesterday.

Just look at the younger one being extra careful moving along the branch 🍃 Once settled he/she decided to have a little preen! 🥰

The other was fast asleep, as expected at that time of day 😴

Here is the youngest Tawny Owl's first experience of a bath - well it was more of a paddle 🤣🤣

He/she is definitely getting braver though 👍

Morning 🦉

While the bigger Tawny Owlet has been practicing his flight and hunting techniques, the smaller one has been practicing his jumping and landing.

This first video shows he managed the kitchen step and the wellies but couldn't quite make it on top of the box (I had put the box there to wedge the door open and Sir Gawain had already pooped on it 🤭)

I have been allowing the owlets to explore and perfect their skills daily and they are both doing amazing!!

2nd Tawny Owl update:

The 2nd, younger Tawny Owl is now eating on his own, I just have to prepare the food for him.

I feed them frozen-thawed chicks initially but towards the release date I switch to frozen-thawed mice and rats as this is what they will most likely hunt when back in the wild.

This video was filmed 6 days ago so I'll be trying him with whole prey within the next couple of days 🤗
