My top 5 grooming tips for new puppy parents 🐶✨

1️⃣ Start grooming early
Even short brushing sessions and handling their paws, ears, and face when they’re tiny helps build confidence for future grooms.

2️⃣ Make it positive
Treats, praise, and patience go a long way.
Grooming should feel rewarding, not scary.

3️⃣ Brush little and often
A few minutes every day is much easier than tackling knots and matting later on.

4️⃣ Get them used to noises
Hairdryers, clippers, and even the bath can feel overwhelming at first. Slow introductions help so much.

5️⃣ Don’t wait until they “need” grooming
Early puppy appointments are all about building trust and confidence and familiarisation with the equipment, not just getting a haircut.

Remember….your dogs welfare will always come before the Instagram perfect photo

A calm puppy = a happier grooming experience for everyone 💛

🤎 Things I Don’t Care About As A Dog Groomer 🤎

🌻 Whether your dog looks perfect for Instagram
Your dog’s comfort will always matter more to me than a “picture perfect” groom.

🌻 Little nervous wees on the salon floor
Being in a grooming salon can feel overwhelming for some dogs, accidents happen and it’s never a problem.

🌻 Muddy paws after a good walk
A muddy dog usually means a happy dog who’s been out enjoying life.

🌻 Eye bogies, cling ons, smelly breath, dirty, smelly waxy ears
That’s literally part of the job, dogs aren’t supposed to arrive spotless before their groom.

🌻 Your dog being perfectly behaved
I work with real dogs, not robots. Nervous, wiggly, excitable, anxious, I’ll always work at their pace.

🌻 Judgement from people who don’t understand my job

Can we normalise in dog grooming… 🐾

✨ Choosing safety, trust and comfort over chasing perfection every single time.

✨ Stopping a groom before a dog becomes completely overwhelmed, stressed or fearful, because protecting their emotional wellbeing matters too.

✨ Having realistic expectations for puppies, anxious dogs, reactive dogs, rescue dogs and elderly dogs. Every dog has different limits, experiences and needs.

✨ Understanding that “Pinterest perfect” styles aren’t always achievable or suitable in real life, especially if the dog’s coat, behaviour or maintenance routine can’t support it.

✨ Accepting that an imperfect groom on a difficult or nervous dog can still be excellent grooming. Sometimes the biggest achievement is simply getting through the appointment calmly and safely.

✨ Remembering that matting, movement, coat condition, home maintenance and behaviour all affect the final result, groomers can only work with what’s in front of them.

✨ Celebrating progress over perfection. Building trust and positive grooming experiences creates better long term results than forcing everything in one session.

✨ Remembering dogs are living, breathing animals with feelings and limits, not mannequins expected to stand perfectly still for hours.

Some days the win is the perfect haircut.
Some days the win is the dog leaving happier than they arrived.
Both matter. 💛
