❗️Pet owners and dog walkers beware❗️
During your walks with your furry friend you may have come across these relatively common plants known as Foxtail Barley (or just Foxtails)
They aren’t poisonous nor toxic to dogs but they can still be incredibly dangerous. As June draws to an end, the bristles begin to dry out and become sturdy. As a result, the foxtail can become lodged within your dogs skin, eyes, paws and, in the worse cases, can be inhaled by your furry friends. Due to the barbed shape of these plants, simply pulling them out isn’t an option as they can detach, leaving some seeds embedded within the dog.
This can lead to infection if left untreated so please be very alert when playing with your pup! Any embedded foxtails should be dealt with ASAP so they do not burrow any further!
