🐰🐰Many of our customers find rabbit vaccinations very confusing and unfortunately we find a lot of regular vets aren’t able to offer much help or advice to owners
Hopefully this explanation will answer some commonly asked questions 🐰🐰

Why does my rabbit need Yurvac as well as Nobivac Myxo-RHD Plus?

Nobivac Myxo-RHD Plus remains an essential annual vaccination. It protects rabbits against myxomatosis, RHDV1 and RHDV2.

However, newer, highly virulent strains of RHDV2 have emerged. Yurvac has been specifically tested and licensed to protect against these highly virulent strains, so it provides an important additional layer of protection.

Yurvac is relatively new to the UK, and guidance surrounding highly virulent RHDV2 strains continues to develop. Rabbit medicine is a specialist area, and not every veterinary practice regularly treats large numbers of rabbits or has yet updated its vaccination advice. This means some vets may not currently be aware of the emerging strain or the additional protection available from Yurvac.

Yurvac does not replace Nobivac because it does not protect against myxomatosis. We therefore recommend both vaccinations to provide the broadest available protection:

• Nobivac Myxo-RHD Plus — protection against myxomatosis, RHDV1 and RHDV2
• Yurvac RHD — additional, specifically tested protection against highly virulent RHDV2 strains

Both vaccines provide protection for 12 months and are administered at separate appointments.
