Does your dog really need to be kept long in winter?

The answer is… it's totally up to you!

One thing I often hear as a mobile dog groomer is that owners want to keep their dogs longer over winter to keep them warm.

And that's absolutely fine! But there's no rule that says your dog HAS to have a longer coat just because the temperature drops.

In fact, longer coats can mean MORE maintenance during those wet, muddy winter months!

Think muddy paws, wet legs, leaves, twigs and dirt getting caught in the coat β€” all of which can contribute to tangles and matting if not properly maintained.

A shorter, manageable trim can make winter coat care so much easier!

Of course, every dog is different. Some need more protection from the cold than others, depending on their breed, coat type and lifestyle.

The bottom line? It's not about keeping them as long as possible. It's about keeping them comfortable, happy and mat-free!

Are you team fluffy or team practical winter trim?

A Groomer's Cup β€” Half Full

After sharing the pressures that can sometimes leave a groomer's cup feeling half empty, I wanted to share the other side.

Because there's so much about this job that fills it right back up.

The trust we build with nervous dogs, the relationships that grow over the years, the little victories that mean more than a perfect haircut and the lovely clients who understand and appreciate what goes into our work.

It's a job that comes with responsibility, patience and challenges, but also so much pride, purpose and joy.

To every client who trusts us with their precious dogs, thank you. You play a bigger part in filling our cups than you probably realise.

And to my fellow groomers, what fills your cup?

A Groomer's Cup β€” Half Empty

Behind every freshly groomed dog is so much more than a bath and a haircut.

There's the responsibility of putting welfare before perfection, the pressure of meeting expectations, the impact of cancellations and the constant balancing act of running a small business.

We love what we do, but that doesn't mean it comes without challenges.

This isn't about complaining or pointing fingers. It's about sharing a little of the reality behind the scenes.

Because sometimes the things that drain our cup are the things nobody else sees.

To my fellow groomers, what would you add?

πŸ‚πŸΎ Look at all these beautiful autumn pooches from this week! 🐢🍁❀️

I always try my best to get a photo of every dog, but sometimes I'm just too busy giving them fusses, cuddles and lots of love! πŸ₯°πŸ•

Such a lovely bunch of gorgeous faces! πŸ§‘πŸΎπŸ‚
