🌼 INTRODUCING DOLLY PAWTON 🌼
2 years old | Golden Retriever | Northamptonshire
Working girl seeks new management position, but not only working 9-5. Treat-based remuneration essential.
Dolly Pawton is beautiful. Ridiculously beautiful, actually. She is also at least 50% working lines, which means underneath that gorgeous golden exterior is a small, highly motivated employee who is becoming increasingly frustrated that nobody has given her a proper job.
Dolly is not looking for the standard busy family home where she gets two nice walks a day and is then expected to spend the remaining 22 hours quietly fitting around everybody’s needs.
This girl needs a home where her exercise, training, enrichment and brain work are a genuine part of daily life. She has had loads of training and is exceptionally good at it, provided there is payment involved. Dolly will do pretty much anything for a treat.
Without treats, she would like to speak to her union representative.
Her biggest issue is impulse control. Specifically, she appears not to have been issued with any.
When the evening Mad Hour™ arrives, Dolly becomes approximately 34 legs, 17 elbows and one enormous mouth, with absolutely no concept of where her body ends and everybody else begins. She can be mouthy when excited but is quite gentle with it. At the moment, the only reliable way to help her switch off is to send her to bed and completely disengage her from any human contact.
Her new people will need to work on that on/off switch — teaching her that life isn’t always GO GO GO, while also making sure she gets the physical exercise and, crucially, the mental stimulation that a working-lines Golden needs.
Because if you don’t give Dolly a job, Dolly will find a job.

• Garden Excavation & Civil Engineering
• General Household Interference
• Chief Officer of Things Nobody Asked Her To Do
She is incredibly friendly, affectionate, funny and sweet. There is no trauma or mistreatment behind any of this. Dolly has been a very loved family dog and her family are doing the right thing by recognising that the life they can offer simply isn’t the life she needs to thrive.
🐕 Other dogs: Dolly can be a little reactive when meeting unfamiliar dogs, so she isn’t currently the sort of girl we’d recommend launching straight into the local Golden convention. However, with sensible, controlled introductions, we would absolutely consider a home with another suitable dog and think it would be very good for her
🐈 Cats: No. Dolly has enough hobbies already.
👶 Children: No young children please. She is simply far too boisterous, excitable and spatially unaware for little people.
We’d also prefer Dolly to have more than one adult relationship in her new home. She can become a little protective of Mum — for example, if Dad hugs Mum she may bark and insert herself enthusiastically into proceedings. There is no concerning aggression attached to this; she’s simply a bit over-invested in being Head of Security.
When massively over-aroused in the evenings she can also grumble at Dad when he tells her it’s bedtime — ironically, Dad is also the person she listens to best.
So, we’re looking for someone who sees all of that and thinks:
“Excellent. A project.”
Not someone looking for a decorative Golden Retriever who will potter around the house and be grateful for a couple of walks.
Experience with working-line dogs, gundogs or high-drive breeds would be a huge advantage. She needs people who actively enjoy training and enrichment and want a dog to do things with.
In return, you get an absolutely cracking young Golden with bags of potential, excellent foundations, no horrible history to unravel and a personality approximately three sizes too large for her body.
