🧼 Care & Maintenance of Your Ideal Saddle
Keeping your saddle clean doesn’t just make it look great β€” it protects the leather, preserves the fit, and extends its life. Here’s a simple, rider friendly guide you can follow.
✨ Five Easy Steps to Clean Your Saddle
1. Prep Your Saddle
Unfasten buckles, remove fittings, and wipe away dust, hair, and mud with a lightly damp cloth. This helps you reach every area that needs attention.

2. Clean the Leather
Use a damp sponge with saddle soap, glycerine soap, or leather cleaner. Work in small circular motions and cover all leather surfaces β€” including under the flaps β€” while avoiding any suede.

3. Remove Soap Residue
Wipe everything down with a lightly damp cloth. Don’t forget folds and crevices where residue can hide. A cotton swab helps with tight spots.

4. Condition the Leather
Apply a small amount of non detergent leather conditioner. Too much can seep into the padding or tree and cause long term damage. Follow the product instructions carefully.

5. Polish the Metalwork
Clean metal fittings and dry them thoroughly. If your saddle has silver trim, use a quality silver polish β€” just keep it off the leather.

πŸ’‘ Top Tips for Saddle Care
β€’ If the leather feels very dry, a thin coat of leather balsam or warmed Neatsfoot oil on the underside can help.

β€’ For heavily neglected saddles, warm water and a soft brush can lift deep dirt β€” just be sure to clean and condition immediately afterward.

β€’ Pay special attention to curves, buckles, and sweat prone areas.

β€’ Run your hands over the panels to check flocking for lumps or unevenness.

β€’ Inspect girth straps for cracks, stretching, or elongated holes β€” these are signs they may need replacing.

β€’ Never oil girth straps β€” it weakens them. Let them soften naturally.
