🐾 SULLIPAWS ENRICHMENT SERIES | SCATTER FEEDING 👃

Did you know a dog’s nose is one of their most important ways of exploring the world?

That’s why scatter feeding is one of our favourite simple enrichment activities!

Instead of simply putting food in a bowl, we scatter some of their usual food around a safe area and let them sniff, search and work for it.

👃 Why we love it:
• Encourages natural sniffing and foraging behaviours
• Provides mental stimulation, not just physical exercise
• Can slow down dogs who tend to gulp their food
• Gives them a little “job” to focus on
• Adds variety to their normal routine

PDSA recommends giving dogs opportunities to sniff and explore, with slow, sniffy walks also being great for their mental wellbeing. (PDSA)

🐶 Why do we use it on some of our pop-ins?

A pop-in isn’t just about opening the door, a quick toilet break and leaving again.

Where appropriate, we like to add a little enrichment into their visit too — especially for dogs who are spending a few hours at home alone. A simple scatter feed can give them something positive to focus on and engage their brains before we leave.

And the best part?

It costs absolutely nothing extra — just a handful of their normal daily food! 🐾

Maeve is our 12-week-old Cockapoo, and she has already completely stolen our hearts… and our sleep. 😂💗
