BINX TESTS: GIANT PIZZLE 🐾

If there’s one chew Binx would happily write a love letter to, it’s this one! 😂🤎

THE GOOD BITS

🐾 HUGE! Approximately 55–60cm long!

🐾 A serious chew: One of Binx’s absolute favourites! We limit her to an hour a day, otherwise we reckon she’d finish it in around 8 hours. 😂

🐾 Naturally low in fat and made from a single animal protein source.

🐾 Dental bonus: JR Pet Products explains that its stringy, fibrous texture can act a bit like dental floss. Its long, thin shape can also help reach those harder-to-get-at back teeth as your dog chews.

🐾 Puppy shark approved! Suitable from 12 weeks, as well as for adult and older dogs. Puppies need extra-close supervision and an appropriately sized chew.

THE NOT-SO-GOOD BITS

Binx says there aren’t any! 😂 Just supervise your dog and remove the chew when it becomes small enough to swallow.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Ever Googled “What dog chews are actually long-lasting?” or “How can I stop my puppy chewing everything?”

A suitable chew gives your dog an appropriate outlet for their natural need to chew, helping keep them occupied and redirecting those teeth away from your favourite slippers! 🤎

My girl, my shadow, my angel, my chaos monkey and my absolutely world is 5 YEARS OLD 🥳🫶🏾🐾

She’ll never quite know everything she’s done. She’s filled our heart with joy, she’s made us laugh, she’s made us cry (with worry most of the time! 😂) She’s healed hearts and she’s got us out and about. She’s also a minor celebrity in the community….I mean, how can you resist her derpy labrador face! 😂😂

She’s also the reason I started Natural Paw Pet Services 🐾🤎

Her allergies, her needs, her diet, her absolute need for simple, good quality treats, and the advice we wished we had when she was a baby are the reason I started Natural Paw Pet Services. And because I want to show the world what a real life dog can use.

BINX TESTS: Ostrich Biltong

Today’s taste test is Ostrich Biltong. So, what did our resident power chewer think?

Binx’s rating: 4/5 paws 🐾🐾

👌🏽THE GOOD BITS

Between 30 and 40cm long, this is a good-sized chew that Binx can easily get her paws around. It's crunchy, gives her something satisfying to get her teeth into, and is a good-sized treat for a dog of her size.

👎🏽THE NOT-SO-GOOD BIT

Longevity! 😂

This one lasted Binx approximately FIVE MINUTES while I popped into the shed.

Five minutes, Binx. FIVE.

If you're looking for a long-lasting chew for a serious power chewer, this probably isn't the one. 😂

🐶 WHO WOULD WE RECOMMEND IT FOR?

Dogs who enjoy a crunchy chew but aren't particularly heavy chewers. It's worth remembering that every dog is different, so how long it lasts will depend on the dog enjoying it!

🤎 WHY WE STILL STOCK IT

Binx has always had a chew for lunch. It's part of her daily routine, so when we started an elimination diet, finding suitable options became really important.

Ostrich has been a great novel protein option for Binx, and this treat is low in fat. We've also had a big win in the 💩 stakes, which, if you've ever had a dog with tummy troubles, you'll know is worth celebrating! 😂

Of course, every dog is different, and what works for Binx won't automatically work for yours. If you're feeding an elimination diet, always check the ingredients and make sure the treat is suitable for your dog's individual plan.

But this is exactly why we like offering different protein options. Sometimes, finding the right product isn't about how long it lasts or how impressive it looks. It's about finding something that fits your dog's needs and your everyday life.

⭐ BINX'S FINAL VERDICT: 4/5 PAWS

Tasty? Yes.

Crunchy? Yes.

Easy to get her paws around? Absolutely.

Long-lasting? Not a chance. 😂

Would she eat it again? We think you know the answer.

The delivery arrived. The stock survived. The box… less so.😂📦

New stock day at Natural Paw means one very important thing…

Binx must conduct a full investigation. 🤎

First, the sniff test. Then a thorough inspection. Then an attempt to eat her way into the box. 🤦🏾‍♀️

And once the investigation is complete? Sit on the other side of the box and pretend nothing happened. Obviously.

I'm not entirely convinced she's qualified for Head of Quality Control, but she certainly takes the job seriously. 😂

Thankfully, it's what's inside the box that we're interested in! 🐾

We see the word “enrichment” batted around social media all the time.

But no one really tells you what it actually means.

Because to your dog, enrichment is so much more than an Instagram-worthy photo.

We see the word “enrichment” everywhere.

Lickmats.
Snuffle mats.
Puzzle toys.
Chews.
Fancy setups that look beautiful enough to belong on your Instagram feed.

And yes, those things can be enrichment.

But they aren't enrichment simply because they look good in a photo.

Because enrichment isn't really about the thing you give your dog.

It's about what that thing gives your dog the opportunity to do.

Sniff.
Search.
Chew.
Lick.
Forage.
Explore.
Problem-solve.
Make choices.
And sometimes, simply switch off and settle.

The same thing can be fantastic enrichment for one dog and completely pointless to another.

Because good enrichment starts with the dog, not the product.

And that's the bit I think gets lost when we see the word “enrichment” constantly used online.

So let's actually talk about what it means.

Bringing home a puppy can be chaotic and overwhelming. And there's SOOOOO much stuff for puppies! 😂

It can be really hard to work out what you actually need, what might be useful later, and what you can probably do without.

So, I've put together two puppy bundles to try and make some of that decision-making a little easier for you. 🤎

🐾 **Puppy Training Starter Kit**

A selection of training treats, pâté, a treat pouch and a rope toy to help you get started with rewards and play, while you work out what your puppy enjoys.

🐾 **Puppy Training & Walking Kit**

Everything in the Starter Kit, plus a walking bag, clicker, whistle, settle mat and silicone teething toy.

This second bundle is particularly close to my heart because it brings together the kinds of things we ask owners to bring to puppy class. They're practical bits and pieces that can be useful as you start learning together.

I'm still learning myself as a trainer in training, and the more I learn about puppies and reward-based training, the more I want to help owners make informed choices about the products they buy.

Because you really don't need to buy every puppy product on the market, or feel like you have to teach them everything all at once. Get to know your puppy, work out what they enjoy, and take things one step at a time.

Both bundles are suitable for puppies over 12 weeks old.

If you’re a new puppy owner, there’s a very good chance you’ve Googled:
“Is this normal?” at 11pm.

I know I did.

I thought I was failing. I thought everyone else knew what they were doing and I was somehow getting it all wrong.

I wasn’t.

I just needed someone to tell me that.

And there are a few things I wish I’d known back then:
🐾 Puppies need a LOT of sleep.
🐾 Chewing is normal. We just need to help them learn what they can chew.
🐾 When we give puppies things to do, we need to think about the goal. Want to keep them busy? A snuffle mat or puzzle might be great. Want to encourage them to settle? Something like a Lickmat can be a much better choice than something that gets them chasing, searching and more excited.
🐾 Puppies don't need entertaining every second they're awake.
🐾 And you are never going to get everything right.
Because we all know we’ll get there eventually.
Sometimes we just need to know that we’re doing the right thing now.

So, if you’re currently in the puppy trenches, save this for your next 11pm Google spiral. 🤎

Before you buy that Christmas treat for your dog… check these 4 things.

Christmas is coming, and the shelves are already starting to fill up with doggy Christmas hampers, stockings, selection boxes and “natural” treats.

They look lovely, they’re festive, and they make an easy little present for your dog.

But before you put one in your trolley, take a minute to look past the pretty packaging.

Here are 4 red flags I’d look out for:

🚩 Ingredients

If the ingredients list leaves you none the wiser about what you're actually feeding your dog, that's a red flag.

You should be able to understand what you're buying and what is actually in the product.

🚩 Rawhide

Rawhide is often dressed up as a natural chew, but “natural” doesn't automatically mean safe.

Don't let festive packaging make the decision for you.

🚩 3. Selling you something without asking about your dog

What size is your dog?

How old are they?

How do they chew?

What are you actually looking for?

These things can all affect what is appropriate for your individual dog.

If nobody asks anything about the dog the product is actually for, how can they know the recommendation is right?

🚩 Not being able to give you advice when you ask for it

You shouldn't just be handed a product and sent on your way.

If you're asking questions about what you're giving your dog, you deserve clear answers.

What is it?

What's in it?

Is it suitable for my dog?

How should I use it?

You shouldn't feel silly for asking. And honestly, this is probably my biggest red flag of all.

If you're going to sell someone something for their dog, you should be able to help them understand what they're buying.

Because your dog isn't a generic dog.

Their treats and chews shouldn't necessarily be generic either.

So this Christmas, before you get distracted by the festive packaging, take a little look at what's actually inside. 👀

And if you know someone who's about to start their Christmas shopping for their dog, send this to them.

A few minutes checking what you're buying could be far more useful than another Christmas bow on the packet. 🤎
