Rocket passed his suitability assessment today for 🎉

Such a sweet-natured boy who took everything in his stride, from loud noises and rolling suitcases to people in hi-vis clothing. He showed confidence in new situations and stayed connected with his owner throughout. It was lovely to meet him and his family today.

A big well done to Rocket and his family 👏 Looking forward to starting our training sessions together and supporting him on his journey ahead.

I never expected volunteering with dogs to completely change the direction of my life 🐾

Before Olive Dog Training, I worked in the corporate world as a Project Manager, but something always felt missing.

While living in Sydney, I started volunteering at a dog sanctuary.

I had no experience working with dogs at the time, and it was a huge learning curve being around dogs with complex behaviours, many of them stressed, overwhelmed, and some who had been in the shelter environment for a very long time.

I spent my time caring for these dogs, and seeing them finally find their forever homes was the best feeling.

I wanted to understand how I could better support dogs like these and improve their quality of life. What started as simply wanting to help quickly turned into a whole new career path.

After moving back to the United Kingdom, I qualified in canine behaviour, continued learning through hands-on experience, and eventually started Olive Dog Training in 2024 🫒🐾

Then came Olive! and with her came puppy blues, pressure, overwhelm and a huge amount of learning. She shaped so much of how I work with clients today and reminded me that dog training shouldn’t feel perfect or performative.

My goal with Olive Dog Training has always been to help owners bring the joy back into training with their dogs, in a way that feels realistic, achievable and fits into everyday life 💚

Thursday Teens graduates 🎓🐾

A big well done to everyone who finished this round of Teens class! Over the last six weeks these dogs and their owners have put in so much work — building confidence, improving focus, and learning how to work together through all the ups and downs of adolescence.

It’s been great to watch each team progress week by week, and I’m so proud of what they’ve achieved 💛

Jasper and his owner joined me for their second 1-2-1 session this week 🐾

Jasper is brilliant with dogs he knows, but when unfamiliar dogs get too close to his space on walks, he can bark and lunge to create distance. During our sessions, we’re focusing on helping his owner better understand Jasper’s body language, recognise his triggers earlier, and build confidence handling these situations calmly and clearly.

We’re also working on changing how Jasper feels about unfamiliar dogs, so he can feel safer and more comfortable out on walks. Progress like this takes time, patience, and consistency, but Jasper and his owner are already working so hard together 💛

The goal? Helping them enjoy relaxed walks together again.
