(Bringing Your Kitten Home)
Firstly please give your kitten their own room first
For the first week or two, keep your kitten in a quiet room of their own. A new home can be overwhelming, so having a smaller space helps them feel safe while they get used to all the new smells, sounds and faces.
Set everything up before they arrive
Put their bed, food and water bowls, toys and scratching post in the room. Keep the litter tray away from their food and water, preferably at the opposite end of the room.
Let them settle at their own pace
Spend time sitting with your kitten and talking gently to them, but don't force cuddles or pick them up constantly. Let them come to you when they feel comfortable.
Gradually introduce other family members and allow them to explore when they are ready.
Introduce the rest of the home gradually
Once your kitten is confident in their room and coming to you happily, you can start letting them explore the rest of the house.
Keep their original room available as their safe place, with their litter tray, food and water accessible. This gives them somewhere familiar to retreat to if they become nervous and want their own space.
Most of all have patience as this is all strange to them and they will adjust in their own time.
