🐾Typical signs of full glands include:

🍑Scooting their bottom along the ground
👅Licking
👃Smelling fishy
🐶Your dog may have one of these signs or all of them. They all have their own tells.
🕛Left too long they can become impacted or infected- this can be very painful
❗️Quick, hygienic expression can prevent bigger issues
Not glamorous—but very necessary! 💛

🌞 What a beautiful day....but it'll be a hot one!! 🌞

A reminder to take care with dogs in this kind of heat, especially the older and brachycephalic breeds such as french bulldogs, pugs etc.

Heat can kill, don't risk it, enjoy it safely.

🌡 Don't leave dogs in the car- it really doesn't take long to heat up, even with the windows cracked!
🚶‍♀️Walk dogs early in the morning or late in the evening
💧Provide plenty fresh drinking water
🪨 Pavements and sand can get very hot and burn paws- always check with the back of your hand for 5-10seconds- if its too hot for you it's too hot for your dog!
💦 If you suspect heatstroke the advice is to "get them wet, then to a vet" - use cold water to soak them fully as soon as possible and ring your vet for advice .

❗️Signs of heatstroke❗️

🔴Excessive panting
🔴Aggitation and restlessness
🔴Very red gums
🔴Drooling
🔴Lethargy, Uncoordination & Drowsiness
🔴Vomiting
🔴Collapse

You can use games with food to keep them entertained at home such as 'go find' or cool a filled kong in the freezer for a special treat.

Meet Woody 😍

Woody is a loveable older gentleman who requires regular gland expression.
Having this done at home with special treats from mum means he is has a much nicer experience for something that isn't very pleasant!

Usual signs of a**l gland irritation include:
Scooting bottoms, overgrooming, other dogs seeming more interested and smelling a little off.

They’re commonly found in gardens and long grass too—regular checks and treatment are essential, especially in warmer months.
🕷️Should you find a tick on your pet please do not squeeze it or pull it out. Use the proper tools to twist and remove or alternatively contact me for a home visit or visit your day practice.
