✨ Exciting News – A New Chapter Begins! ✨

Here it is, the news you've all been waiting for...

From 1st July, Highland Home Vet Nurse will be expanding and evolving into Home Visit Pet Care Alness & Highlands.
While the name is changing, the heart of the business remains exactly the same – providing compassionate, personalised care for pets in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes.
This exciting expansion means we will now be able to offer an even wider range of veterinary services, including:
🐾 Annual health checks and booster vaccinations
🐾 Routine veterinary consultations
🐾 Preventative healthcare and wellness support
🐾 Quality of life assessments
🐾 End-of-life and palliative care services
🐾 Nursing clinics and home care support
🐾 Microchipping and more
Our mission has always been to make veterinary care less stressful and more accessible, particularly for elderly pets, anxious pets, multi-pet households, and owners who may find travelling difficult.
Alongside our expanded services, we are also launching a brand-new website and introducing affordable wellness plans designed to help spread the cost of your pet's preventative healthcare throughout the year.
To all of my wonderful clients who have supported Highland Home Vet Nurse so far – thank you. Your trust and encouragement have made this growth possible, and I cannot wait to continue caring for your pets under our new name.
🐶🐱🐰🐹

🌼 Wellbeing Wednesday 🌼

Preventative care is one of the best gifts we can give our pets and it is also important to take a moment every so often and ask;

🐶 Are they eating and drinking normally?
🐱 Have you noticed changes in their energy levels?
👀 Are their eyes and ears clean?
🪮 Is their coat healthy or do they have excessive shedding or irritation?
🐾 Are they maintaining a healthy weight?
🍑Scooting on the floor or unusually smelly?

Small changes can sometimes be the first sign that your pet needs a little extra care.

As a mobile veterinary nurse, I can help with routine health checks, weight management, nail clips, senior pet support, and advice in the comfort of your pet’s own home.

🐾Typical signs of full glands include:

🍑Scooting their bottom along the ground
👅Licking
👃Smelling fishy
🐶Your dog may have one of these signs or all of them. They all have their own tells.
🕛Left too long they can become impacted or infected- this can be very painful
❗️Quick, hygienic expression can prevent bigger issues
Not glamorous—but very necessary! 💛

🌞 What a beautiful day....but it'll be a hot one!! 🌞

A reminder to take care with dogs in this kind of heat, especially the older and brachycephalic breeds such as french bulldogs, pugs etc.

Heat can kill, don't risk it, enjoy it safely.

🌡 Don't leave dogs in the car- it really doesn't take long to heat up, even with the windows cracked!
🚶‍♀️Walk dogs early in the morning or late in the evening
💧Provide plenty fresh drinking water
🪨 Pavements and sand can get very hot and burn paws- always check with the back of your hand for 5-10seconds- if its too hot for you it's too hot for your dog!
💦 If you suspect heatstroke the advice is to "get them wet, then to a vet" - use cold water to soak them fully as soon as possible and ring your vet for advice .

❗️Signs of heatstroke❗️

🔴Excessive panting
🔴Aggitation and restlessness
🔴Very red gums
🔴Drooling
🔴Lethargy, Uncoordination & Drowsiness
🔴Vomiting
🔴Collapse

You can use games with food to keep them entertained at home such as 'go find' or cool a filled kong in the freezer for a special treat.

Stay safe and enjoy the sunshine! ⛱️

🐾Microchipping at home available 🐾

It is important to make sure all puppies are microchipped before 8weeks of age, not only is it required by law but it also reunites so many lost dogs who would otherwise end up in shelters.

I use a secure database with access to 24/7 helpline should you ever need to change your details or notify of a missing loved one.
