It may be too hot to walk your dog today… Especially if your dog is older, overweight, short/snub nose, or black.
It may be your routine to walk your dog at 3 pm for half an hour, but on hotter days, switch it up and walk them at 6 pm for 20 minutes instead.
If they are anything like my dog, they will start harassing you as soon as they know that it is normal walking time, so play with them indoors or have your dog run through they’re behaviours (sit, stay, wait et cetera) for five or 10 minutes instead. Not only does this keep them cooler, but it helps build a greater bond with you and remind them how to be a ‘good dog’.
It is easy to fall into a routine with your day and with your dog walking, and our brains thrive on routine, but it’s okay to switch it up where necessary.
Also, switching up your routine also helps to improve your problem-solving skills, resilience and your imagination.
Switching up your dog walk is a win-win really!
Stay safe, take water, remember your poo bags and walk a shorter route
