🐾 A muzzle is a tool, not a label.
One of the biggest misconceptions about muzzles is that they’re only for aggressive dogs. In reality, muzzle training is a valuable skill that any dog can benefit from learning.
A dog may need to wear a muzzle for many reasons, including:
• Emergency veterinary treatment
• Injuries or pain
• Recovery after surgery
• Breed-specific requirements
• Behavioural training and management
• Preventing scavenging of dangerous items
The best time to introduce a muzzle is before you need one. By making it a positive experience with plenty of treats and patience, your dog can learn to wear a muzzle comfortably and confidently.
It’s also important to remember that a properly fitted basket muzzle allows a dog to pant, drink, take treats, and sniff their environment. A muzzle should never be used as punishment.
Just like recall, lead walking, or settling calmly, muzzle training is simply another life skill that helps keep dogs and people safe.
