AN APPEAL FOR A FOREVER LOVING HOME FOR CHANCE OUR GENTLE GIANT.
Born: 25/07/2021
Type: Mastiff / Mastín type
Location: Spain
Looking for: A calm home as an only dog
Special needs: Wheat intolerance — he needs suitable food
Info: Can be left alone in the house for a few hours and is muzzle trained
Important: Resource guarding in the home, fear of men at first
Chance was found as a tiny puppy together with his siblings and had to be bottle-fed. The Under Dog gave him the name Chance — because that is exactly what he needed: a chance to live, to be loved, and to have a better future.
He grew up loved and cared for in foster, and later found an adopter in Scotland. Sadly, he was returned soon after — not because he did anything wrong, but because the adopters had not understood what it means to live with a young Mastiff: his size, strength, energy, and needs. So Chance came back to Spain.
After that, life was not always fair to him. In the foster home, there were too many dogs in too little space, and Chance eventually ended up living separately in a small garden kennel. He was still walked and cared for, but it was no longer a real home.
Today, Chance is in a foster home where he is deeply loved — and where everyone can see what a wonderful dog he truly is.
Chance loves people. He is affectionate, loyal, cuddly, and wants to be close. He is not the typical Mastín who just wants to stay outside and be left alone. Chance wants contact. He leans against your legs, loves cuddles, and would happily share the bed if allowed.
He is nervous around men at first. He is not aggressive towards them, but he seems to have had bad experiences and needs patience, kindness, and time to feel safe. With the right person, we believe he can absolutely build trust with a man too.
Outside the home, Chance is a calm and easy companion. He walks well, can be around other dogs, and has been to markets, promenades, busy places, and group walks without issues. He does not react strongly to people or dogs outside.
His challenge is inside the home: Chance guards things he sees as his — his bed, his room, his food, sometimes even his person. This can happen with other dogs and cats - not towards other humans. He is not aggressive because he is “a bad dog”; he is scared of losing everything again.
That is why Chance urgently needs a home where he does not have to share his space, his food, his bed, or his human with other animals. He needs to be an only dog, in a calm home where he can finally feel safe.
We believe that once Chance truly understands that he is secure, loved, and not going to lose everything again, this behaviour can improve a lot. What he needs most is stability, routine, patience, and someone who sees the amazing dog behind his fear.
Chance would be perfect for someone looking for a mix of a loyal companion and a protective, loving big dog. He would especially suit a home with space, perhaps in a rural area, with people who understand large dogs and can give him clear structure and a peaceful life.
He has lost so much already.
Now Chance needs exactly what his name says:
one final chance to belong, to feel safe, and to be loved forever.
