This is what our Festival of Partnership is truly about!

I've been thinking about this sentence ever since I said it during my conversation with Samantha Baer on The Elevated Equestrian podcast.
It also feels like the perfect way to explain why I'm so excited to be joining the Festival of Partnership in Mijas on the 17th of October as a Partnership Ambassador.
A few people have asked me what that actually means.
For me, it isn't about arriving as someone who judges horses or riders. It isn't about walking around looking for what people are doing wrong. It's almost the opposite.
I'm there to observe the partnership.
I'm interested in noticing the conversations that are happening between horse and human. The moments where something softens. The moments where understanding appears. The moments where a horse becomes more confident because something in the human changed, sometimes so subtly that the rider doesn't even realise they've done it.
Those are the moments I notice.
I want to notice the things that are working. What creates trust? What creates willingness? What allows a horse to stay in rhythm while still being asked to do something difficult? What helps horse and human come back together when something doesn't quite go to plan?
We spend a lot of time looking at results. We watch the jump, the movement, the transition, the score, the ribbon. We become very good at judging whether the outcome was successful.
I'm much more interested in asking what the experience was for the horse while it was happening.
The Festival of Partnership feels like exactly the right place to have those conversations and ask those questions.
Everyone asks differently. Every horse responds differently. Every partnership has its own story. But we're gathering around one shared idea: the partnership matters.
I'll be there with curiosity, not criticism.
With an open mind, ready to notice, ready to listen, and, as always, with the horse at the centre of the conversation.
I can't wait to meet everyone in Mijas and spend a few days noticing together.
