Everything to me is rooted in my relationship with my dog. It starts and stops there. I am always fair with my dog.. that is always my goal.

Dog training is first and foremost about the relationship between you and your dog… Not the exercise or the skill you’re trying to teach. Too many people put way too much energy into teaching skills and all too often ignore the dynamic of the relationship. This is where I believe the breakdown happens.

You are all your dog has and if you for one minute believe that your dog does not understand that, you are sorely mistaken. Your dog wants to make you happy, he wants to be safe. Safety comes through structure and clarity.

When I feel myself shifting away from that, I take a break. I remind myself that I’m training a creature that does not speak my language, I need to communicate more clearly. I need to make it fun. I need to make it meaningful.

This is what life with a dog is about for me. Their lives are too short so I try to make every minute count. There’s so many times I look at my dog throughout the day and I’m thankful that he’s mine.

It’s always been my dream to communicate that passion for dogs with others. I know it will never happen… But I continue to try.
