🇨🇿 Na začátku srpna jsme vyrazili do Litvy a Lotyšska. Byla to dovolená, ale vlastně také trochu práce – část naší cesty se dostala do tisku v podobě komentáře k současné situaci v Suvalském průsmyku. 📰 A samozřejmě jsme cestu spojili také s výstavami psů! 🐾

Cecilka získala na MVP Druskininkai v Litvě (7.–8. 8. 2026) 2× Exc. 1, CAJC, BOJ a BOB 🏆 a na MVP Liepāja v Lotyšsku (9. 8. 2026) Exc. 1, CACJ a BOJ. 🥇 Díky reciproční dohodě s Českou republikou se tak stala juniorskou šampionkou krásy Litvy i Lotyšska! 🇱🇹🇱🇻🎉

Litva i Lotyšsko jsou naprosto kouzelné země a moc rádi se tam vrátíme. 💚 V Litvě navíc bylo velmi milé nebýt na výstavě sami – velké díky za společnost, fotografie a handling Aleš Malina a Sára Malinová! 📸🤍🖤

🇬🇧 At the beginning of August, we travelled to Lithuania and Latvia. It was a holiday, but also partly a working trip – part of our journey appeared in print as a commentary on the current situation in the Suwałki Gap. 📰 And, of course, we combined the trip with dog shows! 🐾

At the IDS Druskininkai in Lithuania (7–8 August 2026), Cecilka received 2× Exc. 1, CAJC, BOJ and BOB 🏆, followed by Exc. 1, CACJ and BOJ at the IDS Liepāja in Latvia (9 August 2026). 🥇 Thanks to the reciprocal agreement with the Czech Republic, she has thus become the new Lithuanian and Latvian Junior Champion! 🇱🇹🇱🇻🎉

Lithuania and Latvia are absolutely enchanting countries, and we would love to return. 💚 It was also wonderful not to be alone at the show in Lithuania – our warmest thanks to Aleš Malina and Sára Malinová for their company, photographs and handling! 📸🤍🖤

Vrh A Wepwawet brzy oslaví 10 narozeniny.... Wow, jak ten čas letí! A co všechno se od té doby událo.... Tak ať jim to k té desítce a ideálně ještě dál!, pořád dobře šlape, třeba jako Aldovi v Polsku 😍 (ten největší černý zadek na videu 😀) Hezky víkend všem!

Karta Z-023: Pes okolo psovoda - pes ve výchozí pozici, na povel obejde psovoda a končí ve výchozí pozici: naprosto zbytečný cvik vzhledem k tomu, že na místě finální destinace Cecilka už dávno sedí....

The EDS 2026 statistics are out now... which raises an important question: What are dog shows actually for?

The numbers seem to be getting smaller and smaller. Do you remember 70 landseers at the WDS Leipzig 2017? The World Dog Show in Bologna already felt surprisingly modest in our breed, and now the European Dog Show statistics raise the same question. Fewer dogs mean fewer opportunities for real comparison - and for the real come-and-see experience, supposedly one of the main purposes of showing.

Why are people staying home? Is it the money? The distance, time and energy required to travel across Europe? Or are we becoming less willing to risk losing, preferring titles where competition is predictable to entering a ring full of uncertainty?

And perhaps there is a deeper question. Have dog shows become too focused on absolute standards rather than comparison? We measure living animals against an image of perfection, although no dog will ever embody it completely. Nature, after all, has little interest in perfection. It produces variation....

Maybe the real value of a great international show should not be to find the perfect dog, but to bring together enough different good dogs to remind us what a breed actually is: its diversity, strengths, weaknesses and possibilities.

I was not showing dogs for several years, mainly for personal reasons. And now I am looking again. Not for a perfect dog - mine certainly are not perfect (take it for granted now, my dear critics 😉)- but for dogs whose strengths can compensate for weaknesses I cannot easily eliminate from my own lines. For that I need to see dogs, compare them and understand them. I am increasingly doubtful that edited photographs and collections of titles can tell me what I need to know.....

So, I have to ask: Without competition and comparison, what exactly are we "showing"?
