Private Pony Farrier Service Horse/donkey/miniature hoof basic and corrective trimming I attended the Canadian Horseshoeing School in Ontario and graduated in January of 2012.

There I learned and practiced: basic trimming, corrective trimming, shoeing, forging, and borium. I also learned about corrective shoeing but did not get an opportunity to practice it. I have since sold all of my shoeing equipment as there was not enough business for it and I only do farrier work part time. I have and do trim horses, ponies, donkeys, and miniatures. I have experience with foundere

Good afternoon everyone.

In light of current fuel prices and the fact that I've been told by other farriers that my prices are too low and I'm under cutting them, I've decided it's time to increase my rates.

🔹️Miniature horses and donkeys (36"/9hh and under) routine maintenance trims will now be $45.
🔹️Saddle/light horses, ponies, and standard/mammoth donkeys routine maintenance trims will now be $50
🔹️Draft/heavy horses routine maintenance trims will now be $60
🔹️Goats/sheep routine maintenance trims will now be $30

❗️NOTE❗️ the above prices are assuming the animal is kept on a regular 6-8 week hoof maintenance schedule. Animals who have overgrowth due to lack of regular trims may have additional charges at my discretion based on either how over due their hooves are or how long the trim takes, because it's additional wear and tear on my tools and body.

🔹️Shoe removal will now be $10 per shoe.
🔹️Training if required due to behavioral issues will be a charge of $15/10min beyond the 45min the trim should take.
🔹️Mileage will remain at $1/km one way for now. If fuel prices continue to climb I may adjust this fee in the future.

Spent 2hrs working on this little donkey today.
Before anyone gets upset with the owner, they used to have a good farrier who trimmed her regularly, unfortunately he moved away without notice and didn't get them set up with another farrier. They have been trying to get a farrier ever since. Any they contacted either didn't respond or said they didn't do donkeys. They even had one show up and take one look at the donkey, then hopped back in his truck without a word and left.
I don't understand why so many farriers refuse to trim donkeys and minis.
This little miss is walking a little awkward right now, but will be feeling much better soon and she's already booked in for her next mani/pedi appointment with me.
She is foundered in the front hooves so they will never be completely normal, but I hope in time we can get the lateral twist out of both fronts and the left hind. Once she's walking more normally on them she will wear them more normally as well.

Feeling good, well mentally 😅 physically I've been better. I just contacted the last of my backlogged clients to get them booked and then it's back to business as usual.
The pictured "gem" is the inside of my left knee. Thankfully it looks a lot worse then it feels. 🤷‍♀️ hazards of the trade. I hope you are all enjoying your summer so far and I look forward to seeing you in the future.

For those wondering, yes I am back to work. I am taking it slow and easy(ish) as I am still not 100%. I have either trimmed or booked about half of my backlog and am hoping to be caught up within a month. Once caught up it will be back to business as usual with routine appointments and a much more minimal wait for new bookings. Thank you all for your patience through this and please pray for my own horses who are definitely suffering some hoof neglect at the moment.

To all my lovely, loyal clients,
Unfortunately I'm going to be out of commission for the next 2-3 weeks. Last Wednesday (April 9th) I decided to go for a ride with a friend. I was videoing her when one of the dogs came around the treeline and spooked my mount. He bolted a few steps and then stopped, I stopped a few nano seconds after him when I hit the ground. I landed on my head and left shoulder, and then the rest of my body caught up with me scorpion style bending my back. I was winded, and achy. After catching my breath I re-mounted and finished the ride.
The next day I was sore and stiff, specifically my left front rib cage, sternum, left lower back, and left side of neck.
Friday afternoon I trimmed a well behaved client horse to assess the damage to my body. The trim went well, I was sore and stiff as if I'd trimmed 10 horses instead of 1. Unfortunately when I was putting my tools away in the box of my truck something in my back shifted. I then had strong pinched nerve like pain under my right shoulder blade.
Saturday morning, I still had left front rib pain, sternum pain, and left lower back pain, but now I also had right neck, shoulder and shoulder blade pain. The pain medications I had on hand were no longer having any impact on my pain.
Sunday I went to emerge (in cold lake as that's where I'd been since tuesday). I was given an injection of toradol, then xrays were taken. Later I was given a shot of morphine and prescriptions for tramacet, naproxen and cyclobenzaprene. I have had no pain relief with any of these medications they've only made me drowsy. Doctor told me that nothing was broken.
I got back to Wainwright yesterday. Today I went to the wainwright hospital. Doctor confirmed I only have soft tissue damage and gave me repeats on my pain meds as well as a referral for physio.
Doctors have said it's going to take me 2-3 weeks to recover. Unfortunately that means I've had to cancel some farrier appointments and will need to reschedule them after I'm well enough to work. I am keeping a list of those clients in order of when I was supposed to see them. New clients will be scheduled after the canceled appointments are rescheduled.
I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. I wish I could soldier through but at the moment I can't even lay down or sit up without help and washing my hair is a nightmare.

Just updated my page's service area with a few places I work. If you're willing to pay mileage I will travel anywhere. Mostly, I service within an hour around wainwright in any direction. I go up to Cold Lake, roughly, once a month, and trim within an hour of there. When I'm in Cold Lake, I charge mileage from where I'm staying between Cold Lake and Bonnyville, instead of all the way from Wainwright. During those trips, I can also stop at clients along the way anywhere in between at a discounted mileage.
