Puppy training isn't just about teaching tricks—it's about laying the foundation for a lifetime of good behavior. I believe that puppy training is absolutely crucial to teach a dog how to be a dog because otherwise, they're just wild animals living in our homes! Let's talk about my 3 core tenets of balanced training and how we can create the ideal relationship with the newest member of your family ❤️
1. Boundaries: Establishing clear boundaries is essential for helping your puppy understand acceptable and unacceptable behavior. This includes teaching them where they can go, what they can chew, and how to respect others' space. Boundaries are a critical part of creating a safe and structured environment where your puppy can thrive.
2. Structure: A structured routine provides your puppy with predictability and security, reducing anxiety and stress. It also lays the groundwork for obedience and good behavior. With regular feeding times, walks, and training sessions, your puppy learns what to expect, which can help prevent problem behaviors like destructive chewing or excessive barking.
3. Loving Leadership: While positive reinforcement is an important training tool, balanced training also acknowledges that there need to be consequences for unwanted behavior. Loving leadership means being consistent and fair, setting expectations, and using appropriate corrections when needed. This approach combines reward-based training with clear guidelines, allowing your puppy to understand their place in the family structure.
