A beautiful update from Eclair & Soufflé’s home. 🤍
Their owner recently shared these beautiful moments of the two boys and wrote:
“Just this morning, I managed to capture with my camera my kitten Eclair lying on his back on the highest perch of his cat tree, his head raising towards the sun and his body basking in its rays, with Vancouver’s majestic North Shore Mountains looking on in the background.
Immediately, this immortal phrase from Song Dynasty poet Xin Qiji came to mind: ‘I am charmed by the mountains; I imagine they must likewise be charmed by me.’
I actually got two kittens from a breeder, not one (the other is called Soufflé; like Eclair, he is fluffy and good enough to eat). Even though they’re not litter mates, they were born three weeks apart and grew up together. Their arrival at the same forever home meant they’ll be able to achieve what many married couples aspire to but fail — they won’t be apart unless death do them part.
Over the past 10 days I’ve had them, I’ve been intrigued by their deep connection with each other manifesting in the way they copy each other even when sleeping. They could be sleeping on different platforms of a cat tree, yet they seem to be instinctively aware of the exact manner in which each other is sprawling out. Whether it’s dozing in the shape of a donut, or snoozing in a position reminiscent of the Venus reclining pose, they copy each other so faithfully that they are almost mirror images.
Naturally, my poetry-loving mind searched for the best lines to sum up the nature of their bond. I finally settled on Tang Dynasty poet Bai Juyi’s description of the immortal love between Tang Minghuang and his favourite concubine Lady Yang: ‘In heaven, let us be birds flying wing to wing; on earth, let us be branches growing intertwined.’
Whether it’s on the top of a cat tree or on the floor, Eclair and Soufflé interlock, if not physically, mentally.”
Such a beautiful piece written by their owner about Eclair & Soufflé and the special bond they share.
