☕️ THIS WEEK’S KITTEN SPOTLIGHT: THE COFFEE KITTENS! 🤎

Biscotti & Latte! These two girls were found right in Tweed and they are still looking for a home of their own! 🥹

At 5 months old, they’re fully vaccinated, FIV/Felv negative, and a BONDED PAIR. These girls must be adopted together!💕

Latte is the outgoing one! She’s affectionate, cuddly, purrs the second you give her attention, and is perfectly happy being picked up. Basically, she’s your little coffee date who wants to snuggle. 😂🤎

Biscotti is a little more reserved. She’s still learning to trust people and will need a patient family who lets her come around in her own time. She LOVES playing, gets along great with other kittens, and is slowly becoming more comfortable with cuddles. Wand toys may just be the way to her heart! 🥹

These two are also quite the little chatterboxes, except instead of meowing, they make the CUTEST little chirping noises.

They aren’t spayed just yet, but we have plans to get that taken care of in the coming weeks, and it can be done before adoption!

Bobbins, Bows and Spocky are growing up WAY too fast! 🥹🩷

Tomorrow these little beans get their final vaccines and will officially be ready for adoption! I seriously can’t believe how fast they’ve grown up. What happened to my little tiny babies?!?😭

People really are missing out on some of the cutest, funniest, most chaotic stages of kittenhood! These guys are at SUCH a fun age, I really can’t believe no ones has applied for them yet!💔

Bobbins and Bows would LOVE to be adopted together, while Spocky would be happy in a home with other cats or as a solo gal! 💕

MEET INDIE! 🩷

I picked up this sweet little girl yesterday after Jason trapped her behind the grocery store in Tweed. Apparently, she’s been living behind the Independent for a while now, and it’s pretty clear this girl is much too friendly to be out there on the streets. 🥺

Cleverly named Indie (short for Independent 😉), this little lovebug is estimated to be around 4 months old. She’s super affectionate, has quite the motor on her, and starts purring the second you pet her. 🥹❤️

Indie has received her Rabies and FVRCP vaccines, been dewormed, treated for fleas and ticks, and tested negative for FIV/FeLV.

She’ll be heading off to her foster home on Wednesday while she waits for her next chapter.🫶🏼

Have you ever noticed a cat with the tip of one ear missing? That’s called an ear tip! ✂️🐱

When a feral cat is trapped, spayed/neutered, and returned (TNR), a small portion of the tip of one ear is removed while they’re under anesthesia. It’s a universal sign that the cat has already been fixed, so trappers, rescuers, and community folks can easily identify them from a distance!

Ear tipping saves cats from being unnecessarily trapped and put through surgery more than once. It’s safe, humane, and an incredibly important part of TNR!

So if you spot a kitty with an ear tip, you know someone has taken the time to make sure they won’t be contributing to the cycle of unwanted kittens. ❤️

Thank you so much to everyone involved!! Foundations Youth Centre Tweed we appreciate you!🫶🏼😸

On Tuesday, our Male Mentorship program stopped by for a visit with Friends and Ferals Cat Rescue to deliver a donation and thank them for all their hard work and dedication. John Sanzo even came along for the walk to learn more about our youth centre and we discussed various ways the community can show it's support.

We're looking forward to having the opportunity to support our neighborhood cat rescue again soon!

GARF! ❤️

Our handsome, sweet, perfect, FIV+, diabetic dude is doing SO great! 🥹❤️

Garfie was at the clinic today to recheck his urine for ketones and his glucose levels, and I am absolutely THRILLED to tell you that his glucose is now completely normal! He has no ketones in his urine (he does still have glucose, but that’s to be expected), AND he has gained an entire kilo! 🥳

Everyone at the clinic agrees that he looks so much better overall, and we couldn’t be happier with his progress. As I mentioned in my last post, Garf recently started a medication called Senvelgo, along with a strict diet, and clearly, our treatment plan is working! I’m hopeful he’ll continue to do well and that, with time, he may even be able to come off his medication and be managed with the proper diet alone. 🤞❤️

This boy is also SO FREAKING SWEET!🥹Garf is so affectionate and loving. He’s a big boy who loves BIG, and anyone who gets to call him theirs is going to be so lucky.

We’re really hoping someone will fall in love with him just as much as we have and see what an incredible little soul he is. Garf deserves the BEST life ever!! He’s been through enough, and I would love nothing more than to see him settled into a home of his own, surrounded by all the love and snuggles.

Everyone meet Lauren! 😊

This girl was very fondly named to pay tribute to a (not so) lovely woman I had an encounter with years ago in the Belleville Neighbours Facebook group.

Lauren was extremely vocal about my work doing TNR and was very eager to share her negative opinions on the wonderful concept of TNR. 🙃

This was years ago (March 10, 2022 to be exact😝), and if you’ve been following Friends & Ferals since the beginning, some of you may remember that I was a little more hotheaded in my reactions back then. 😂 Over the years, I’ve tried to tone it down a little when it comes to online trolls.

But let me be very clear… I do not forget. 😂
And I’m still always going to be a little feral.

During our lovely interaction online, I vowed to Lauren that as long as my fingers continued working, I would never stop setting traps and I would NEVER stop practicing TNR.

I also told Lauren that, in her honour, I would name my next feral cat after her.

Well… I’m only about four years late, but I am VERY pleased to finally introduce you all to Lauren! 😂
This girl is feral. She has been spayed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and ticks, and ear tipped. And the best part?

Once she has healed from her spay, Lauren will be going right back home to her colony. 🥰

TNR is an incredibly important part of helping manage community cat populations. Without it, the streets of Tweed would be completely overrun with cats and kittens.

I will never apologize for doing what we do. I truly believe in TNR, and I see the direct, positive impact it has on our communities every single day.

There will always be Laurens out there in the world.
Luckily, there are also people as petty as me who will continue doing the work anyway… if not for the cats, then just to spite the people like Lauren. 😂😅

Last night I had the absolute honour of being recognized as one of Tweed’s Volunteers of the Year. ❤️

This award means so much to me.

At the end of the day, I don’t do this for recognition. I don’t do it for the cute kitten posts, or the “hero cookie” everyone talks about. I do it because I care. I do it because somebody has to. Because, more often than not, nobody wants to, or will.

It does however, feel really amazing to have the work we put in acknowledged and recognized.❤️

Rescue isn’t easy work. It’s not always happy endings and cuddly kittens. It’s HARD. It’s heartbreaking. It’s making hard, sometimes impossible decisions and then carrying the weight of those decisions with you.

But it’s also incredibly rewarding. It’s work I will continue doing, because these cats matter. They deserve to know love, care and compassion. Even if that sometimes looks a little different than what people expect it to.

A huge thank you to our amazing community for continuing to support Friends & Ferals and all of the work we do. There really is something to be said about living in a small town, and we are so incredibly lucky to have so many people who continue to support us. ❤️

To my husband, Jeff — I genuinely could not do this without you. I love you and our crazy cat chaos. 😂❤️ (ps happy anniversary!)

A very special shoutout to Jason King for all of the feeding, trapping, monitoring, camera setup and everything else he has been doing to help manage the colonies around Tweed. He has helped me find and manage colonies I didn’t even know existed, and has been such a huge help in making sure these cats don’t go unnoticed.

There are so many people who play a part in keeping us going, and I’m incredibly grateful for every single one of you.

So, here’s to continuing to do the work, one cat at a time!🐈‍⬛❤️
