What does it take to carry on a dog training legacy while building your own path?

Nathan Aular of Dankroft K9 joins me for a conversation about balanced training, dog sports, e-collars, prong collars, board & trains, the Toronto dog training community, and the future of Dankroft.

We also get into something I think every dog trainer can relate to: the importance of continuing to learn, challenging your own beliefs, and putting the relationship between the dog and owner first.

This is a conversation you don’t want to miss.

🏡🐾 DK9 SEPTEMBER SUNDAYS 🏠 FREE
IN-HOME REFRESHER VISITS🐶

Starting September 1, 2026, I will be offering FREE one-hour in-home refresher sessions for current and past Dankroft K9 clients.

As I explained during your original assessment, when you become a DK9 client, you are a client for life, for as long as your dog lives.

Sometimes, after completing a training program, old habits return, routines change, or certain techniques are forgotten. Please do not feel embarrassed or guilty about reaching out.

I am not coming into your home to make you feel guilty, criticize you, or judge how you live with your dog. I am coming to support you, refresh what you learned, reinforce your handling and obedience skills, and make any adjustments or changes needed to help you and your dog get back on track.

This is about helping and getting you back on the right track. not judging.

Since I am the owner of Dankroft K9 and the person who originally completed your assessment, please contact me directly through WhatsApp to reserve your session.

💯

Let’s keep a sense of perspective ….

We’re training dogs and educating owners.
None of us are curing world conflict, child poverty, starvation or disease.

The intoxication of a social media following does not change these facts.

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the Larry Krohn Seminar with my son Nathan Aular

It doesn’t matter how many times I attend Larry’s seminars, every single time I walk away enriched, inspired, and with new information that helps me continue growing as a dog trainer.
For me, education never stops. Every seminar, every conversation, every observation adds another important piece to the puzzle. As trainers, we are always building, learning, adjusting, and improving not just for ourselves, but for the dogs and owners we work with every day.

Attending this one with Nathan made it even more meaningful. Sharing the knowledge, and the experience with my son is something I truly value.

I also want to give a huge thank you to Paul Connelly for hosting such an incredible seminar.
To the whole J&S K9, LLC Team! man, you guys are the dream team every dog trainer would want to have:

Cori Ch*****ne
Jeremy Doty
Katie Dorr
Jose Gomez

Molly Rhind

Thank you guys for the hospitality, the work, the organization, and the energy you brought to the entire weekend.
Let me also say this: you have a boss with one of the biggest hearts I’ve seen. Paul goes above and beyond to take care of his people, and that says a lot about the kind of leader he is and the culture you guys have built.

Thank you, Larry, for always bringing knowledge, clarity, and passion to the dog training community, I had a blast!

Thank you again to everyone involved for a great weekend of learning, growth, and dogs. Much respect.👊💥

⏳ COUNTDOWN TO JONAS BLACK — MARCH 21-22 ⏳

💥Two days.

No fluff. No ideology. Just the biology of behavior.

✔️This seminar is built for trainers, handlers, and serious owners who want to understand what’s actually happening under the hood, not just what it looks like on the surface.

We’ll break down:
⚡ The nervous system as the driver of behavior
⚡ Why “calm” is a trainable physiological state — not a personality trait
⚡ How modern training drifts into performance instead of function
⚡ The gap between obedience optics and real stability under pressure
If you’re tired of chasing symptoms and want to address root mechanisms, this is where the work happens.

Proud dad and mom moment, DK9 style. 🖤🐾
Yesterday, in the middle of a dog training session, my son did something unforgettable.
Bite suit on. Training field. Real life happening.
He dropped to one knee still in his suit, and asked Carly to spend her life with him.
And she said YES.
This one hit different.
Strength, commitment, discipline… and love, all in the same moment.
Couldn’t imagine a more him way to propose, or a better partner for him than Carly.
So proud of the man my son has become, and beyond happy to welcome Carly officially into our family.
Life, dogs, and love built together, one rep at a time.

Congratulations to both ❤️🎊🎊🎊

Love you 🍾

The IACP is pleased to announce a brand new webinar series on professional e-collar use in order to elevate the conversation around the tool and move it away from oversimplified or polarized narratives. We will have knowledgable industry experts presenting bi-weekly on the professional use of remote e-collars.

The intent of these webinars is not to teach introductory or “how-to” basics, but rather to highlight the variety of ways experienced professionals responsibly and effectively incorporate e-collars into their training programs. Tune in live and learn from leading minds in the canine professional community.

First up, we have Tom Davis! Tom will be presenting on February 18th at 12pm CT. RSVP today:

💥It’s good to see young trainers rising in our community. Talent, drive, and confidence are important, and when someone is good at what they do, it shows.
But experience teaches lessons that skill alone cannot.
I once heard my grandfather say:

“When you climb the ladder of success too fast and too high, the fall can be very hard.”

Dog training has a way of humbling everyone.
No matter how skilled you are, no matter how sharp your timing is, no matter how many wins you rack up, the dogs will eventually teach you something you didn’t know.
This industry is not built on moments.
It’s built on decades.
Before criticizing others, remember that every trainer was once learning. Every handler struggled. Every confident trainer was once corrected by a dog that didn’t read the textbook.
True mastery isn’t found in targeting others out
it’s found in consistency, restraint, patience, and respect.
The trainers who last aren’t the loudest ones on social media.
They’re the ones still training dogs 20 and 30 years later.
Stay hungry. Stay humble.

Let your work speak. The dogs always tell the truth.
