I’m re posting this because I forgot to say a few important things.

At 10 1/2 years of age Shelby was one of the oldest dogs entered at Master National.

We had a great day on Monday but Tuesday just wasn’t her day. She tried hard. She made a mistake, I made a mistake and then “the cookie crumbled”. That’s how it is sometimes. It wasn’t for lack of effort.

When I got home we had received Shelby’s Master Hunter Title certificate. It was a long time coming. Through puppies and the pandemic it was hard to get back on track. But we did.

Today we got to be “test dog”. No pressure just fun. She loved it.

Then I realized that this was our last competitive outing.

Today Shelby is retired from competition and on to the fun stuff. We’ll still train, we’ll hunt pheasants, we’ll visit our seniors and we will have fun.

A huge thank you to all who got us here.

We had a first great day at Master National. Shelby did great. She was spot on.

Special Thanks to Shelby’s very special friends from the Brantford Seniors Centre who came out to cheer her on.

We felt your love and support.

Day 2 tomorrow - off to water we go!

Well that was quick!

Had Idgie and Shelby entered at Master National starting a week from today.

Apparently Idgie thought better of it and came into season yesterday. So disappointing but I knew it was a possibility. So Idgie was scratched yesterday.

That leaves Shelby to uphold the Tealgrove legacy.

GO SHELBY!!! ♥️

Well, we are entered.

Both Shelby and Idgie qualified for the Canadian National Master Hunt Test that is being held in Ancaster beginning August 17th.

Yesterday, I entered them both!

Idgie was never in doubt to be entered.

I was on the fence about Shelby. The tests run for 5 consecutive days. They will be tough and can be grueling. A lot of training happens leading up to competition and at 10 1/2 I just wasn’t sure I wanted to put her through it.

She has shown she can do it and I believe she deserves to be there. So we will go, with realistic expectations and hope for the best. This will be Shelby’s final test/competition as she will officially be retired at the close of Master National. Then we’ll be off hunting pheasants, visiting seniors, going some scent work and hanging out.

We plan to have fun. I’m looking forward to this last milestone. To be honest, I’m quite emotional about it.

Wish my girls luck!

After a week of being kept inside and no training, it was finally safe to get back out there and do some training. Shelby had a busy day and has retreated to her favourite spot for the duration of the day. ♥️
