POV: You bred for a smaller foal… and got THIS!! 👀
Keep an eye on this one! He’s Out On Bond!
At just 8 weeks old, this c**t is already enormous beside his 16.2hh mama — despite intentionally breeding her to a smaller stallion in hopes of producing a more moderate-sized foal. 😅
So now the question is…
How big do we think he’s going to get? ⬇️
One of the most debated topics in breeding is how much influence the mare versus the stallion has on size. While stallion selection absolutely matters, mare size, uterine environment, genetics hidden deeper in the pedigree, growth rates, nutrition and overall development all play a role in the final outcome.
A smaller stallion doesn’t always guarantee a smaller foal.
A big mare can still produce a giant.
And sometimes the “surprise package” ends up being the standout athlete.
Breeding is part science, part strategy… and part mystery. ✨
When planning a cross, breeders often try to balance:
▪️ Height & bone
▪️ Scope & athleticism
▪️ Growth rate & maturity
▪️ Rideability & durability
▪️ Market goals and discipline
But at the end of the day, genetics LOVE to humble us. 😂
So tell us:
👉 How tall do you think this c**t will finish?
👉 Have you ever bred for one outcome and gotten the total opposite?
👉 Do you think mare size or stallion size has the bigger influence?
