New kitten parent? Here’s everything you need to know about your kitten’s vaccine and deworming schedule, because protection starts early!
Kittens need 3 rounds of vaccines and deworming treatments, given 3–4 weeks apart, beginning around 8 weeks old. This schedule exists because maternal antibodies passed from mom gradually decrease over time, meaning your kitten’s own immune system needs time to step in and take over. Each booster builds stronger, longer-lasting immunity.
Here’s a breakdown of what we’re protecting against:
🔵 FVRCP — Covers Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis (a severe upper respiratory infection caused by herpesvirus), Calicivirus (another common and contagious respiratory and oral disease), and Panleukopenia (also known as feline distemper, a potentially fatal viral disease affecting the immune system and intestinal tract).
🔴 Rabies — A fatal viral disease that affects the brain and nervous system. Required by law and essential for your kitten’s safety and yours, even for indoor cats!
🟢 FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus) (optional, not included)— A serious and potentially fatal virus that weakens the immune system, making cats vulnerable to infections and certain cancers. Especially important for kittens who may have any outdoor exposure or contact with other cats.
Our doctor will assess your kitten’s overall health before any vaccines are given to ensure they are safe to receive them. These visits are also the perfect time to discuss spay/neuter timing, nutrition, litter box habits, parasite prevention, and more!
Skipping or delaying rounds can leave your kitten vulnerable during their most critical window of development. Stay on schedule and you’re giving them the strongest start possible.
