It’s with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to AKOKSUM, this business became a huge part of my life so it’s hard to let it go.🤍

Experiencing this trauma (I won’t be sharing any details as it’s very personal), has really left me at a loss. My perspective of what’s most important in life has been awakened and I’ll be focussing on other things🤍.

Thank you for your understanding and sorry for the abrupt nature of this closure, life can throw us the unexpected. All outstanding orders will be shipped out this week and next. Today is the last day the shop will be open, some items are on sale. Thank you for supporting 3 markets and 338 orders these past 7 months. It’s been a wonderful learning experience. A special thank you to my phenomenal team who has touched my heart along the way with all their support and by extension, I thank this wonderful dog community.

They are hobby farming dogs that are always at home with dog mom. This pack is raw fed and being apart of the AKOKSUM team is so amazing because we can support other small scale farms from across Canada and still get amazing treats! This pack loves a good goat bite and the organic blueberry banana crisps”

Happy Monday everyone; we’re back!✨

This weekend was the first weekend I closed the shop and it was wonderful! Did some work behind the scenes (more new proteins coming soon). Also got to relax, prepped for an entrance exam for school, did some “place” training with Welly, and went skiing for the first time in forever!

✨W E E K E N D C L O S U R E S✨

Moving forward, all orders must be placed Monday-Friday as I will be closing the shop on the weekends 🤍. I know, what e-commerce businesses closes on the weekends?! Juggling my 9-5 job, school, volunteering, friends+family, and AKOKSUM has been challenging. After doing much reading and reflecting over the holidays, it’s become clear to me that this is best for the business and for my personal well-being in the long-run. Thanks for your understanding☺️.

Ps. Due to demand, I’ve added in a new delivery feature. Local delivery no longer has a minimum, however any orders that are b e l o w $45 will have a small delivery fee.

✨ Winter Team Spotlight; A L A M O ✨

“Alamo is a 10 month old Texas Heeler who is a non-stop ball of energy! 😜 His favourite activities include playing frisbee, going on walks and snuggling with mum and dad. Alamo absolutely loves his treats from AKOKSUM and has them incorporated into his daily meals. He used to be a quite the picky eater but isn’t anymore thanks to Julia’s high quality treats 🙌🏼 Alamo’s recommendations are: Smelts, Salmon Bites, Salmon Skins and a new favourite... Duck Feet!”

Fun Fact from Julia: Alamo was the first order we had to a PO Box in Canada! Their first purchase was July 22nd! His mom is SO sweet, even though we haven’t met in person I can tell she has a heart of gold🧡

AKOKSUM; the reason behind the name✨

Yesterday’s market had me blown away! Thank you for all the effort you put into planning this. From BlogTO to CTV news, you went above and beyond to make sure that doggo lovers of the city knew about this event!

A question I get occasionally at markets is, AKOKSUM? Why the name?

If you guessed that AKOKSUM is MUSKOKA spelt backwards, you guessed right!
*For those who don't know, Muskoka is a region of natural beauty within ON, Canada*.

There are a few reasons why I came up with this name. From childhood memories visiting my grandparents, to my mom being born and raised there, to it being one of my favourite places to enjoy nature, to where we did our engagement photo's which are my favourite pics to date (swipe only if you dare as it’s non dog related/mushy content lol). The MAIN reason though was (drum roll please):

Muskoka is where our pup Welly was BORN!
