Our first Toes for Todd event was a great success this weekend! 🥰 Between donations made this week and proceeds from Saturdays nail trim event, we raised….
🎉 🎊 $645.00!!!!!! 🎊 🎉
I’m so beyond grateful for the generosity of my clients who donated and for those who took time out of their weekend to come see us on Saturday. Todd has been doing better since we increased his gabapenten but is still in need of a permanent solution. His MRI is scheduled for November 23rd so we’re all looking forward to getting some answers. It brings me a lot of peace of mind to know that we have so much support while we’re working to make this happen! I hope to see some of you October 24th at our next Toes for Todd! 🥰

Nara’s diva status has been ✨reinstated✨

Nara had a MASSIVE amount of dead coat that needed to come out, which often presents as frizzy, soft, light coloured hair around the shoulders and legs. Carding is a technique I learned at Mastergroom this year that removes dead undercoat and helps the topcoat lay flatter against the dog’s body. It also helps to clear the hair follicles and promote oil production that keeps the skin healthy and happy! I’ve wanted to learn how to properly card and handstrip for years but education on the island is very limited. Seeing what a difference only one session made in Nara’s coat makes me very excited to build my skill with all my other sporting breed clients! 🐶

Kind can be boring.
Sometimes it needs to be.

We want to show them their new life.
But they might need time to recover from the old one first.

And I completely understand the excitement.

You've brought this dog home and you want to give them everything.
All the things that say, "look how good your life can be now"!

But they don't know that yet.

They don't know this house is permanent.
They don't know which noises matter.
They don't know the people walking through the door.

Even the routines they relied on have changed.
Everything's changed.

But one thing we do know.

They arrived with a history.

Sometimes one we know quite a lot about.
Sometimes one we know almost nothing about.

So while we're thinking about all the wonderful things we'd like to add into their life, they may still be trying to make sense of the life they have just landed in.

That's why making their world smaller for a while isn't necessarily depriving them.
It can be giving them fewer things to process at once.

And then, when their new world starts making a bit more sense, it can grow.

There is plenty of time for adventures.
But they don't need to experience their whole new life in their first week.

This is my boy Todd! 💞 Todd has some pretty severe anxiety and, as anyone knows who has met him, a very noticeably deformed skull 💀 😬
Since last month we have noticed a lot of behavioural changes in Todd, from getting stuck in various rooms to struggling to get down from the couch and bed.
Dr Tuff @ Torbay Rd Animal Hospital has been a big help since last year, when we first saw her to get Todd medicated for his anxiety. Now that things have progressed we all agree it’s time to get a proper look at Todd’s noggin to rule out if the shape of his skull is possibly causing some neurological issues that are worsening his anxiety. 🧠
He needs an MRI that THANKFULLY is going to be partially paid for by Trupanion, but still leaves us with a hefty bill.
For this reason I’m starting Toes For Todd! Every Saturday starting Oct 17th from 10-2 I’ll be having walk in, Fear Free, 1:1 nail trims out of my salon at 58 Golf Avenue. 💅 All proceeds will be going towards Todd and his upcoming MRI. $20 nail trims or $30 for a nail trim, bandana and spritz of holiday cologne!
