Moose are just animals, they don't know what they're doing, and they are not trying to cause accidents. This group is about making the highways of Newfoundland safer to drive upon. A few points to know before you post:
1 - This is not a group solely advocating moose fencing. We just want a solution. Moose fencing is just one of many solutions to this problem.
2 - This group does not in any way sup
port the slaughter of the entire moose population. Moose are just animals, they don't know what they're doing, and they are not trying to cause accidents.
3 - Everyone in this group is entitled to their own opinion as long as it is stated thoughtfully and respectfully, and any and all responses should be as equally thoughtful and respectful. Each year, in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, there are hundreds of moose related accidents on our highways. Many of these cause serious damage, and are oftentimes even fatal. Too many innocent people have lost their lives, or have had their lives drastically changed because of the over population of moose on the island. Most recently, the life of a young girl two weeks shy of her high school graduation was tragically lost in an unavoidable accident. While her death couldn’t be avoided, precautions can be put in place to reduce the risk that this will happen again. If we do nothing, it will happen again, no doubt about it. It is time for our government to do something to save its people. This young girl’s life was just beginning. Let’s get something done before another valuable life is lost. We are asking the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to take the steps toward making our highways safe for travel. We understand that there is no definite solution, but if even one life is saved from this, then it will be worth it. The risk of driving on our highways at night can be much lower, and it should be. We have a petition circulating through out the high schools, and it will be circulating through out the communities. If you would like to help circulate it, send an email to [email protected] and we will email you the petition file that you can print and distribute, along with our mailing address for returns. Together we can show our support and do something about this! Its not their fault, its no one's fault, but we CAN do something to prevent it.
