🐴 What Happens During an Equine Massage?

Ever wondered what actually happens during a massage session? Every horse is different, so each massage is adjusted to the individual horse and what they comfortably tolerate that day. ❤️

✋ 1. Initial Assessment

Before beginning the massage, I observe the horse and feel through their body, looking for areas of:

• Muscle tension or tightness
• Sensitivity
• Muscle soreness
• Asymmetry between the left and right sides
• Restricted movement or possible compensation patterns

💆‍♀️ 2. Hands-On Massage

I use different techniques and levels of pressure depending on the horse and how their muscles respond. This may include:

• Gentle, relaxing strokes to warm up the muscles
• Kneading techniques
• Working through areas of tension
• Techniques to encourage circulation and relaxation
• Gentle stretching or range-of-motion work when appropriate

🐎 3. The Horse Guides the Session

Your horse is an important part of the conversation!

Horses may show signs of relaxation such as lowering their head, licking and chewing, yawning, softening their expression, or becoming sleepy.

I pay close attention to their body language and responses throughout the session and never force a horse through discomfort.

⏱️ How Long Does It Take?

A full session typically takes around 2 hours, depending on the individual horse and what they comfortably tolerate that day.

✨ Why Might a Horse Benefit From Massage?

Equine massage can help support:

🐴 Relaxation and comfort
💪 Healthy muscle function
🩸 Circulation
🤸‍♀️ Flexibility and range of motion
🏇 Recovery after exercise
🔎 Identifying areas that may need further attention

Massage is a supportive therapy and does not diagnose or replace veterinary care. If I notice something concerning or outside my scope of practice, I will recommend consulting your veterinarian.

Every horse is different, and every session is tailored to the horse in front of me. ❤️🐴

🏇 Why is massage so important for sport horses?

Sport horses work incredibly hard, whether they’re competing, training, or conditioning. Just like human athletes, their muscles can become tight, sore, and fatigued. Regular massage therapy can help keep them feeling and performing at their best.

✨ Benefits of equine massage include:
• Improved flexibility and range of motion
• Reduced muscle tension and soreness
• Increased circulation to support healing
• Faster recovery after training and competition
• Better relaxation, focus, and overall comfort
• Helping identify areas of tension before they become bigger issues

A comfortable horse is often a happier, more willing partner. Massage isn’t just a luxury—it’s an important part of maintaining your horse’s health, performance, and long-term well-being.

Looking to help your horse move more comfortably and perform at their full potential? I’d love to help! I offer professional equine massage therapy tailored to your horse’s individual needs, whether they’re actively competing or simply deserve the best care.

📩 Send me a message to learn more, ask questions, or book an appointment. Your horse will thank you! 🐴💙

🐴 Why Massage Benefits Senior Horses 🐴

As our horses age, their bodies work a little harder to stay comfortable and mobile. Just like people, senior horses can experience stiffness, muscle tension, reduced flexibility, and the effects of years of wear and tear.

✨ Equine massage can help by:
• Reducing muscle tension and stiffness
• Improving circulation and blood flow
• Supporting flexibility and range of motion
• Helping compensate for age-related changes and arthritis discomfort
• Promoting relaxation and overall well-being
• Assisting recovery after exercise and daily activities

Many senior horses may not be working as hard as they once did, but they still deserve to feel their best. Regular massage can help keep them comfortable, moving freely, and enjoying their golden years.

Every horse is unique, and sessions are tailored to your horse’s individual needs, whether they are retired, lightly ridden, or still competing.

💙 Because age is just a number, and comfort matters at every stage of life.
