✨ Persian Appreciation Post ✨

I may be a little biased, but Persians will always have an extra-special place in my heart. 🤎

I’ve had a few beautiful Persians visit the salon recently for everything from fluffy cleanup packages to adorable teddy bear cuts. Of course, my own Persian, Bella, had to have her spa day too! 🛁✨

Persians are absolutely gorgeous, but they are definitely a high-maintenance breed when it comes to grooming. The same goes for their close relatives, Himalayans and Exotic Shorthairs! Their dense coats benefit so much from professional grooming on a regular 6–8 week schedule to stay clean, comfortable, and manageable.

Regular grooming helps stay ahead of shedding, tangles and matting while keeping those beautiful coats looking and feeling their best.

I’ll never complain about having more of these sweet, smooshy-faced kitties in my salon. 🐱💕

🐾 Start Grooming Young! 🐾

One of the best things you can do for your kitten is introduce them to professional grooming while they're still young. Grooming is a skill cats can learn, and early positive experiences can make a huge difference as they grow.

I recommend bringing kittens in after their second round of vaccines and ideally having them visit me 2–3 times before they reach 6 months old.

These early appointments help kittens become comfortable with:
✨ Baths & blow-drying
✨ Nail trims
✨ Brushing & combing
✨ Having their paws, belly and tail handled
✨ Grooming equipment, sounds and new surroundings

The goal isn't just a clean kitten. It's teaching them that grooming is a normal part of life. This can make regular grooming much easier and less stressful as they grow into adults, especially for long-haired breeds that will need ongoing coat maintenance.

Even if your kitten's coat doesn't need much grooming yet, this is the perfect time to start. 💕

✨ Two of my favourite pieces of grooming equipment, especially during shedding season!

The Ae**us Neck Dryer + Refuresh Small Shorthair Brush is one of my favourite combos for working with shedding kitties. 🐱💨

The neck dryer keeps the air moving through the coat hands-free, while the Refuresh brush gently lifts and removes all that loose, ready-to-shed fur.

The best part? I can deshed while keeping both hands on the cat. This gives me better control, allows me to support and reassure them throughout the process, and keeps the groom moving efficiently without constantly switching between tools.

And judging by the amount of fur flying in this video, this kitty definitely had some coat to spare. 😂

Professional equipment isn't just about getting a great result. It's about choosing tools that help me groom cats safely, comfortably, and with as little unnecessary handling as possible. 🩵
