We're so excited to share that Beechwood Beauty Co. is once again hosting their Rally for Rescue Pickleball Tournament in support of Myrtle Animal Rescue & Sanctuary!

Last year's inaugural event was an incredible success, raising $3,000 for the animals in MARS' care. We were absolutely blown away by the generosity of everyone involved, and we're thrilled to see this wonderful fundraiser return for a second year!

Meet Lulu! This beautiful 7-month-old Bernese Mountain Dog/Golden Retriever mix is a GOOD DOG who just happens to be smack dab in the middle of her menacing puppy phase. And when you're a giant puppy, that phase comes with a whole lot of dog!

Lulu is affectionate, happy, goofy and full of potential, but she's also a growing girl with a developing brain who needs someone willing to put in the work. She will be a BIG dog, and the time to establish boundaries, structure and expectations is now. She needs a consistent handler who understands that training and good manners are an ongoing part of raising a wonderful companion.

We think Lulu would be fantastic for a moderately active family. She doesn't need you hiking 10 kilometres up a mountain every day, but she does need a couple of 30-minute exercise sessions daily, along with mental stimulation, training and opportunities to learn new skills. That developing brain needs a workout just as much as those growing legs! You can absolutely work full-time and have Lulu, but you'll need to be active and engaged when you're home. She's not a couch potato unless her needs have been met first.

It's easy to fall in love with Lulu's beautiful face and her combination of two wonderful breeds, but her future family needs to understand they're adopting a GIANT PUPPY, not a fully trained adult dog. She has energy, enthusiasm, curiosity and all the ridiculous behaviour that comes with being a teenager in a very large furry body.

Lulu has already overcome a serious injury and lengthy recovery early in life. With consistency, patience, exercise and a good sense of humour, someone is going to have an absolutely fantastic companion.

Lulu's adoption fee is $700, with a $200 rebate following her spay. Her adoption includes age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, parasite prevention, microchipping, a complimentary positive-reinforcement training session, 30 days of Trupanion pet insurance and ongoing support from MARS.

Meet Monty! Eight months old, ridiculously adorable, and an absolute menace. He is about 22 pounds.

Monty is a Cockapoo who has entered his teenage years with the confidence of a dog who has never once been told the world doesn’t revolve around him. He’s cute, clever, bursting with energy, and if you give him an inch, he’ll take a mile, your lunch, and probably your favourite shoes.

Monty is a LOT of dog in a relatively little body.

For eight months, Monty has pretty much gotten his way, and he’s developed some strong opinions about how life should work. He’s now learning that pushy behaviour doesn’t get rewarded. He’s not thrilled about this revelation, but he’s catching on quickly!

Monty needs an active home committed to LOTS of exercise, training, consistency, and firm boundaries. He’ll test those boundaries, possibly file a complaint with management, and then eventually realize you’re serious. He’s incredibly intelligent and would thrive with tricks, agility, and activities that keep his busy brain working.

He’s not for couch potatoes or families with young children. Older kids who enjoy training could be a great fit. He likes other dogs, but any resident dog needs to match his nutty energy or confidently teach him some manners. A fenced yard isn’t mandatory, but safe running space is important.

Think of Monty as a human teenager. He’s eating everything in your fridge, leaving the kitchen a disaster, rolling his eyes when you ask him to clean up, and then asking what’s for dinner.

Please don’t fall for the fluffy face without understanding the work involved. With the right guidance, Monty has the potential to be an absolutely fantastic companion!

🐾Meet Nala! ❤️

Nala is a 4-year-old Pomeranian weighing just 8 to 10 lbs, and this little lady has a very important rule: belly rubs are over when SHE says they're over!

Her foster has discovered that if you stop petting Nala before she's ready, she'll gently place her paw on your hand as a reminder that you still have a job to do. It's an adorable little habit and one of the many things that makes Nala such a fun companion.

Nala does have a cautious side when meeting new people. She's not the type to throw herself into the arms of a complete stranger, but give her a little time to get acquainted and you'll soon see her affectionate side. Once she knows you, she's quite happy to soak up all the attention you're willing to give.

She's got a nice balance of energy, enjoying a good run around the backyard as much as some quiet time indoors. Nala currently shares her foster home with other dogs and gets along well with everyone, but she's much more interested in human company than canine companionship. She'd be perfectly happy as your one and only!

As for her house manners, Nala is a pretty easy roommate. She does well on her own without being crated, hasn't shown any separation anxiety or destructive behaviour, and is doing reasonably well on leash. Her experience with cats and children is unknown.

Nala's Ideal Home:
We're looking for a calm, loving home with adults or older children where Nala can enjoy a relaxed routine and plenty of companionship. Someone retired or working part time would be a lovely match, although she doesn't need someone home every minute of the day.

A securely fenced yard is strongly recommended. Nala enjoys having room to run, and because she may be a flight risk, keeping her safe and secure is especially important.

Nala might take a little time to decide you're her person, but once she does, you'll have a sweet little companion who knows exactly how to ask for what she wants. And if you happen to be particularly skilled at belly rubs, you'll already have a head start! ❤️

Christmas is coming, and we’re happy to share that Myrtle Animal Rescue & Sanctuary is one of the local rescues benefiting from Project Santa Paws this year!

A big thank you to Briwood Farm Market and Hustle & Heart 94.1 myFM St. Thomas for organizing this initiative and including MARS. We know how much work goes into putting something like this together, and we appreciate being included.

Running an animal rescue means there’s always another mouth to feed, another bag of litter to buy, and another animal needing care. Donations like these help us stretch our resources further and continue taking in animals who need us.

If you’d like to contribute, Briwood Farm Market is collecting pet food, treats, litter, toys, blankets, beds, and monetary donations until December 13, 2026. Everything collected will help support local animal rescues and shelters.

We’re fortunate to have businesses like Briwood and myFM willing to put their time and energy into supporting animal rescue in our community. Thank you to everyone who helps make this possible!

🐾 Meet Miss Maggie!

Miss Maggie is a 4-year-old Shih Tzu weighing approximately 15 lbs, and she's a delightful little combination of playful, affectionate, and just a tiny bit clingy. She's the kind of dog who enjoys a good romp around the backyard but also believes that an empty lap is a terrible waste of perfectly good real estate!

Maggie has spent the past four weeks in foster care with a few Yorkies and a cat, and she's been having a wonderful time with her canine companions. She loves chasing her furry friends around the yard and has even managed to shed a pound or two thanks to all the activity. But don't let her playful side fool you. Once the fun is over, Maggie is more than ready to trade backyard adventures for some quality couch time. She's a true Velcro dog who loves being close to her people, and personal space isn't really something she feels strongly about!

Maggie also has some lovely manners to go along with all that personality. She's house trained, uses a doggie door in her foster home, enjoys her walks, and does well on leash. She settles into her crate at bedtime and shares her foster home with a cat, whom she mostly ignores. Maggie clearly has her priorities, and the cat doesn't seem to be very high on the list! Chicken is off her menu, and she's currently doing well on salmon-based food.

What kind of home would suit Miss Maggie?
Maggie would be happiest in a home where she can enjoy a nice balance of activity and relaxation. A securely fenced yard would be ideal since she loves running and playing outside, and a friendly canine companion would be a lovely bonus. Because she's had the company of other dogs throughout her time in foster care, we don't yet know how she would manage being left alone for extended periods. A home where someone is around much of the time would likely suit her best. We'd also love to see Maggie in a home without young children, where she can enjoy a calmer environment and plenty of individual attention.

If you're looking for a little dog who can keep up with the backyard fun and then happily spend the evening curled up beside you, Miss Maggie might be your perfect match. Just be prepared to share your couch, your personal space, and possibly your favourite blanket. Maggie isn't particularly interested in the concept of mine when it comes to snuggling! ❤️

Meet Huey and Dewey, two three-year-old pineapple conures who are living proof that being a little different doesn’t have to slow you down!

These two besties both have a condition called splay leg, which affects the positioning of their legs. Do they care? Absolutely not. Not even a little. They’ve got flying to do, snacks to eat and important bird business to attend to.

Huey and Dewey are happy, chatty little characters who will keep you entertained for hours with their antics. They’re also enthusiastic eaters who enjoy everything from pellets and fresh foods to seeds and millet. Honestly, we’re not sure they’ve ever met a snack they didn’t like.

They LOVE getting out of their cage and flying around, exploring their surroundings and generally enjoying life.

Now, here’s the important part. Huey and Dewey are not tame. While it’s certainly possible to build trust with previously untamed birds, it will take patience, consistency and realistic expectations. They are curious about people, though, and VERY motivated by food, so we wouldn’t rule out winning them over with time and plenty of treats. They may never become cuddly, hands-on companions, and that’s perfectly okay! These two are an absolute delight just to watch.

Neither bird has been DNA sexed, and neither has ever laid an egg, so we don’t know whether they’re boys, girls or one of each. What we do know is that they’re the very best of friends, and they will be adopted together.

Conures are intelligent, social birds who need daily enrichment, room to exercise, a nutritious diet and a home that appreciates their chatter. Huey and Dewey also deserve a setup that accommodates their splay legs comfortably and safely.

Myrtle Animal Rescue & Sanctuary is looking for foster families, and we promise you don't need a big house, a giant backyard or years of dog experience. You just need a little patience, a lot of love and a willingness to help a dog get ready for their forever home.

Fostering saves lives. It's really that simple. Every time someone opens their home to a foster dog, we have the opportunity to say YES to another dog who needs us.

We provide the veterinary care, supplies and support. You provide the safe place to land, the belly rubs and maybe a little space on your couch. Fair warning: the couch space tends to become negotiable.

🦜UPDATE: ADOPTED 🦜

Meet Ittsy & Freddie, two stunningly beautiful young adult lovebirds looking for their forever home! Lovebirds are a completely appropriate bird for the first time parrot owner.

These two are absolutely inseparable, and we're looking for a home where they can stay that way. Their sexes are unknown, although neither has laid any eggs. What we do know is that they're best buddies who will happily keep you entertained with their singing, chattering and hilarious little antics.

Lovebirds are small parrots with BIG personalities! They're relatively low-maintenance compared to larger parrots, and while they can learn to enjoy human interaction and even become quite tame, these two are perfectly content with each other's company. After all, they're called lovebirds for a reason!

Their cheerful chatter is generally less booming than the calls of larger parrots, making them a potential option for apartment living, although they can certainly get loud when they have something important to say!

A few things to know about bird ownership:

Birds are wonderful companions, but they're not decorations in a cage! They need daily attention, enrichment, toys to chew and explore, a nutritious diet that includes quality pellets and fresh vegetables, and plenty of opportunities to exercise outside their cage in a safe environment.

They also need an appropriately sized cage, regular cleaning and access to an avian veterinarian. Birds have sensitive respiratory systems, so things like cigarette smoke, scented candles, aerosols and overheated nonstick cookware can be dangerous.

And here's something important: lovebirds can live 10–20 years with proper care, so adopting them is a long-term commitment!

Ittsy & Freddie's adoption fee is just $50 for the pair, or $100 including their cage. We will not separate them.
